DS loves firetrucks, trains and airplanes and Lois Lenski has books on each of them. Does anyone have these? What do you think? Also, if you have other recommendations, especially for firetruck books, I would appreciate it.

We have both the Little Fire Engine and the Little Train and read them both quite often. They're cute. My DS likes them. He is a big firetruck lover. Another good one was Curious George and the Firefighters. We also just got Poinsettia and the Firefighters by Felicia Bond at our library - cute.

I don't have any familiarity with the Lenski books, but we've given several of the Toni Mitton/Ant Parker books as gifts, and they have been well received. I especially like the illustrations. Here's a link to one book that combines several of their books, including the ones on firetrucks and trains. I think they also sell the firetruck and other books (planes, trains, etc.) separately.

I highly recommend books by Byron Barton. He has ones called Trucks, Planes, Trains, Airplanes, Boats, etc. (Not sure about fire trucks though.) We get them from the library and DD really likes them.

We checked The Little Fire Engine out from the library last week, and I really like it. DD seems to enjoy it, also. I recently found a Little Golden Book (redone in current board book format) about fire engines and fire fighters. I can't remember the title (and it's in DD's room right now, where she's asleep), but I found it in the book section of Walmart. HTH!

We have Lois Lenski's fire truck and train book and hate, hate, hate to read them! Very long and very dry. DH and I finally hid them far away in the basement so we wouldn't have to read them any more. We have a lot of cute fire truck books (DH is a firefighter) and some cute train books too - I can give you some titles later on if you want (Colin is already asleep tonight).

Titles of your favorites would be great. Thanks.

For trains, anything Thomas is a winner. My Big Train Book (more pictures, no story). Tracks by David Galef (out of print, but available on half.com).

For fire trucks:

Big Frank's Fire Truck by Leslie McGuire
The Fire Engine Book (a Golden Book)
Firefighters by Norma Simon
Firefighter Frank by Monica Wellington

That's all we have in Colin's room - if this list doesn't help, we might have more books packed away (we are complete bookaholics here)!

DH and I cringe at the Little Fire Engine. Fireman Small seems a tad full of himself, it drives me nuts that the no family members notice that htere little girl is missing, they are taking their furniture out-and made sure to save that cast iron frying pan that is lying on the front lawn.....then Fireman Small chops a hole in the roof, pumps 10,000 gallons of water into the house, turns around and announces "The fire is out now. You move right back in." DS loves it but it makes me BATTY!

These books are fantastic. We have the Boats, Trains, Trucks and School Bus books and my DS loves them, especially the train book. He likes the Lois Lenski Little Train book but the story is on the longer side so I tend to make up a story that's more suitable. He loves the Thomas the Train books, especially Thomas and Percy and the Dragon, Thomas and the School Trip, James in a Mess, Shhh! It's a Surprise and the Thomas ABC book. He also loves The Big Train Book and he likes the Curious George + the Train book.
