I am attending a one year old's birthday party. What is an appropriate gift for a boy at this age. I want to spend about 50.00.

My son loved the Leap Start Learning Table by Leap Frog.

My son's favorite gift at one year old was a wagon- and it will be a hit for many years. We have a radio flyer one, but I wish it was the plastic type that has seats and seatbelts. Here is one at Target, but they are everywhere. http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=br_1_4/601-1282212-9714508?%5Fencoding=UTF8&frombrowse=1&asin=B000031XDE
I will have to disagree on the Leap Frog table that another suggested- I think my son lost interest at about 12-13 months. It is designed for a younger crowd- like 8-12 months old.
I love the "Signing Time" videos- which teach youngsters to use sign language. Very helpful in this pre-verbal stage! It relieved a lot of stress of trying to figure out what my son wanted- of BOTH of us! :) They are at www.signingtime.com- I'd recommend the set of volumes 1-3. The set in VHS plus a CD are $55.
Hope that helps!!

Another vote for a wagon or the Signing Time DVDs! I actually got my son a wagon on Craigslist for only $20 and it was a huge hit at his 1st birthday party with all the kids (aged 10 months to 3 years old). We have the green plastic Step 2 one. We also just got Conner vol. 3 of the Signing Time DVD set for Christmas and we all love it. I love watching it with him and I've already learned all the signs. He's also learned 5 new signs from watching it. We started signing with him around 4 months old and he had already learned a bunch of signs without any videos or books which is why I only bought him the 3rd volume (I had already taught him most of the signs from vol. 1 on my own).

If you have an IKEA near you-they have a little castle tent. Little I say-all three of us sit in it to read books...It is about 4 feet tall, and then 4ft wide and long. Really cute for a boy. Jack keeps all his stuffed animals in there-he will go in there alone and read books, etc. If I lived closer every kid I know would be getting one for his birthday. They were 29.95 in October.
