We have a few b-day parties coming up....what toys do you suggest? I was thinking of a cool Melissa and Doug puzzle. Or the personalized name Cd's.....where can I get these at a great price? TIA!Any suggestions are appreciated.

Not sure whether you meant where to find the CD's or puzzles, but I can usually find Melissa and Doug puzzles for $4.99 at Tuesday Morning. Ross usually has a good selection of M&D toys, also. I give a lot of puzzle/board book combos for birthdays.

You can get a big bucket of the Potato Head family and parts for $12.99 at Target. It's plastic, but doesn't make noise and makes the child use his/her imagination. (And it's fun for the parents, or else I'm just a dork!)

Melissa and Doug's wooden food stuff is pretty neat too--you can find a set of sandwiches or pizza or velcro veggies and fruit for $14.99 or so at TJ Maxx/Marshalls.

You mentioned personalized stuff--there are some cute totes at www.lillianvernon.com for around $10 that come personalized.

The M&D Magnetic Hide 'n Seek Doors are really cool. The M&D Latches Board is neat too. Another hit around here are the M&D Jigsaws in a Box (4 12-piece puzzles in a wooden box). Also, Lauri puzzles are really nice and not commonplace. Other possibilities would be a Doodle Pro/Magna Doodle, Play Doh Set (the kitchen is very nice) or a felt board and pieces. Books are always a good choice. Around here, anything Thomas or Maisy is a hit.

I noticed (online) that one of my local toy stores carries this for 9.99. Seems like a great deal on a neat toy!

Christine, check out your local Ross if you have one. I was so surprised at some of the great things I found there. And, ours tends to have Melissa & Doug things too. I found some great deals on toys for birthday gifts.

DD just turned 2 and I think she would love that.

Another suggestion is a Magnadoodle.

One of the nice things about that is that it's unlikely something the child already has. I think it looks fun!

That is pretty neat. I know my 2 year old would like it...
