Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has one of the new Pack 'n Plays with the higher changing "table". I'm sure that it is better for your posture (I remember getting a backache over Thanksgiving taking care of my two-week-old niece who has one of the older models that are lower) but I'm not sure that it seems very safe for your kiddo. It seems to be suspended over the bassinet, as opposed to the older version, where the changing table rested on the frame of the playpen. Besides looking kind of silly, IMO, it seems that the new higher one would be in danger of breaking off from where it is attached if you were using it with a higher weight kiddo (6 mos or so?) and spilling the poor child out into the bassinet. Has anyone acutally used one of these with their baby?

Thanks!

My PNP is a couple years old, but honestly, I never used the changing pad thing. Probably worse for my back, but I just leaned over and changed her in the bassinet. It seemed like a hassle to take her out, put the changing pad on, put her back on it, etc. Mine had a canopy that I used so it wasn't possible to take her out while the pad was already on. I haven't seen the new style, but it sounds unnecessary. I'm sure some people love it though. JMO.

DD is 6 months old and I'm not sure what I would have done without the changing table feature on our Pack'n Play. I LOVED it. We keep the Pack'n Play permanently set up in our living room downstairs even though she doesn't nap in it...just so we can use the changing table. Granted, when she was really little (up to about 6 weeks or so) it was sometimes a pain to move the changing table part off so she could nap there (or put it back to change her) but, it was so easy to do that I could do it with one hand while holding her. We moved her to her crib for naps at about 6 weeks so it isn't an issue anymore. I never felt that it was insecure at all. In fact, she would sometimes fall asleep while we were changing her or be alseep when we changed her and we would just leave her there for a while (we were always in the room with her and it was when she was no more than 10-12 weeks old). She is now over 6 months old and weighs 19lbs and I still don't have any concerns over its safety. She loves to play and kick when she is on the changing table and she can get the entire Pack'n play shaking while I'm changing her and I still feel the changing table is secure. I wouldn't walk away while she is on it, but you wouldn't do that on any changing table with a 6 month old. She's approaching the weight limit and I will be soooo sorry to see it go.

Here's a picture of the new Pack'N Play I think you are talking about. I haven't seen it IRL yet and there aren't any reviews so I can't help you there. It does look kind of weird and unsteady to me though. The changing pad doesn't seem very big width-wise compared to the one I have. I have the older model with a full size bassinet and the changing pad that sits on top of the playpen and never had a problem with it. I'm 5'7.

Ummm...silly me for thinking that something related to baby stuff would still be one of the "newer" ones at 6 months old! Mine is the one that has the changing table that rests on the frame of the Pack'n Play. So...nevermind. :-)
