I mistakenly posted this message under the Feeding Baby forum so I'll repost here. Thanks for understanding!

I can't believe it's actually time to "furnish" my parents' home for when we visit with DS. My mom wants to be sure that DS has "somewhere to sit" - both at the table and otherwise - even though he can't yet support himself! She is sure she has seen a high chair that essentially functions as such and then detaches, I guess, to become a booster seat. Any thoughts?? If not, any suggestions for an alternative?

Thanks for your patience as I also ask my next question: is there some sort of chair for a 7 mo who cannot yet sit by himself?

TIA,

Stephanie

I think she might be talking about the Fisher Price Healthy Care Deluxe or the Baby Trend highchair. Basically it functions as a highchair with several height adjustments. Later when baby is older you can take the tray off and push it up to the table to sort of function as a booster. But there isn't a highchair that will completly detach (at least that I know of). We have the Fisher Price highchair and really like it a lot. It also reclines so your baby could sit with you at dinner even if he's not eating. The removable tray is wonderful.

However for Grandma's house you might just want to go with a simple booster. They are small and compact and attach to a chair. We have the Fisher price Healthy Care booster and we use it all the time. It lives in our car for when we go out to eat. I also take it along when we travel. There are also a few brands that make booster that recline which would come in handy for your DS.

I bought the BEST highchair for the grandparent's house at Target. It's by J. Mason and folds completely flat... It's really cool and I totally recommend it!

I LOVE our First Years 4 stage reclining feeding seat. Can be used way before they sit. We used it instead of a high chair. DS is now 3, and still sits in it, only without the tray. I bought a 2nd one (they're only about $29) for my inlaws when they took care of DS. When I visited my parents, I detached it from the chair, and took it with us. It was pretty easy. HTH.

I bought the Healthy Care Booster Seat by Fisher-Price for when I go to someone's house. I just keep it in my car, so whenever I need it I can just pull it out. I love it. And it is around $25.
