How do I adjust the straps on the kinderzeat?

The directions do not explain how to and I get loosen the straps to make them longer. My 16 month old keeps climbing up in his brothers chair but I don't want him to use it without a seatbelt and the straps are way too tight. I have never used them before so I have never tried to adjust them. It seams that there is a trick to it because you cannot just slide the buckle. Anyone know how to make the straps longer?

i have the sort that requires the tip of a butterknife to flip the 'teardrop' holding the strap in place before sliding it. HTH!
