Dying with Koolaid - how do i know how much my silk weighs?

So I've decided to try dying my own silks. It says to use 1 packet of kool aid per ounce of fabric. How do I know how much a silk weighs?

Do you have a kitchen scale? If so, put a bowl on the scale and "zero" it out--then put the silk in the bowl and you'll get an accurate measurement.

If you don't have a kitchen scale, you can go to the post office (with a bowl) and do it there. :)
