Hi,

DD is turning 1 in 2 weeks and GM bought her a Kettler Navigator, with pushbar. Those of you who have tricycles, do your babes wear helmets? I mentioned to DH we need to get a helmet for her and he thought she would be to little to find one for her. If any of your 1 yo have a helmet, which is the best???

Thank you,
Lisa

Noah is 18 months and we just bought him a helmet. I went to the local bike shop. The guy who helped us was wonderful and he fitted a helmet to DS exactly. He laid in all the pads, adjusted the chin strap etc. - stuff I would never have known how to do. We got a S/M Bell helmet and it is a great fit with the highest pads.

Here is a link to the helmet we have

and another Bell option

And a link to a previous thread that was really helpful

We have the same Kettler :)! We got a helmet for DD#1 mainly so she would associate wearing one with riding a bike. It's starting to work too -- Chloe now asks for the helmet when she wants to ride! We've got a Giro helmet: http://tinyurl.com/5sutb .

Thanks to all of you. We have decided to get the bell hummingbird from REI. I will have them to ship to the store so we don't have to pay for shipping. Thanks again!!!

Can I ask a related question to those of you with the Bell and/or Giro helmets?

I know the CR ratings listed the Bell Boomerang as the best overall, but I noted that they fit a head circumference of 18.5-19.75" whereas the Giro ME2 (second best) says they fit a head circumference of 18.5-20.5" My DD is already 2 and I'd like the helmet to last a while if possible, but I'd also like for her to be as safe as possible. Can anyone comment on how long the Bell fits a child as I have no idea of DD's head circumference and I'd be ordering online.

Thank you!

Thanks for the link to the previous thread. We'll getting DS a Kettler soon and so will also be needing a helmet.

Corie, is there anyway you could get a tape measure and just measure your DD's head? That is precisly why I went to the bike shop and had DS fitted! I find the whole thing very confusing.

We also own the Kettler, and we got our DS a Bell toddler helmet from TRU. (My son is almost 2). It had all kinds of safety features, and came in lots of different patterns.

We had our local bike shop also measure our ds's head for a Bell helmet. He has since outgrown it and moved onto another Bell (toddler) helmet without all the extra pads. HTH.
