Anyone have any really great suggestions for books with numbers? We have a couple of counting books but they emphasize the number of items and not the actual numbers. DS is crazy about numbers right now! He also loves "moons." We have Goodnight Moon, Goodnight Gorilla, and the Going to Bed book and he is obsessed with finding the moons in each (especially if they are cresent moon shaped).

Any others out there to suggest before I get into the quagmire of Amazon or searching online.

Thanks!

One of our favorite counting books is Max Lucado's Hermie & Friends Buginnings Numbers. It is by a Christian author and references things that God made. It's actually a story in which caterpillars go to their other insect friends and collect things that God made. So, he gets 1 pinecone, 2 blueberries, etc. In the corner of the page is a big number (probably 2" high in a 4" circle). At the end, there's a recap, with the number and the corresponding item. It's a really cute book.

Ten Little Ladybugs by Melanie Gerth is one of our favorites. However, it's a reverse counting book (10-0). The text has the number written out ("ten") but at the top of the page, the number "10" appears.

The DK Publishing books are really good on this sort of thing too. Usually those are photos of items.

We have NFL 1-2-3 by DK Publishing and it's really cute. I'm almost certain that has numbers on each page but I can't locate it at the moment. DS loves football so we have almost all of the DK football books. I think there's a baseball one too.

Also, I Spy Little Numbers might be a good choice if he likes trying to find numbers. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/059068714X/qid=1117996697/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/104-3745249-9007963?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

My DS loves finding and pointing out the moons in this book...

They're full moons, though, and there are only 2 or 3.

Harold and the Purple Crayon has crescent shaped moons and it's a cute story...

We have a Miffy counting book that DS loves. It has tabs with the numbers which he loves!

Sarah loves Ten Little Ladybugs right now, so I'll second that recommendation. One moon book I haven't seen mentioned (and I'm not sure if you want to go the Sesame route) is I Don't Want to Live on the Moon. We got it as a gift and Sarah loves when we sing the song to her. Though Ernie is main "charater," it's nothing more than the lyrics as the story.

If I think of any others, I'll add them.

We have "Kitten's First Full Moon" which has lots of moons, but of course they are all full moons. We also have a fold-out book from Border's discount section which seems to be "Double Delights: Big Book of Alphabet and Numbers". It's really lovely, and it goes all the way to 20 with numerals that turn into a picture of that many things, but it tears REALLY
easily. We have to be very careful letting her open flaps even sitting on a lap and getting help, which we all find frustrating. Amazon also has just the numbers in a different edition which might be less fragile than the discount one: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1571457801/qid=1118099598/sr=1-4/ref=sr_1_4/102-5056904-1678547?v=glance&s=books

My son is currently in love with Miss Spider's Tea Party. He loves counting all the bugs.
