We live in So. Cal and we'll be spending some long days at the beach this summer. I have a one year old that I want to shade from the sun while she naps or just wants to mellow out and take a break. I saw Pacific Playtents at Toys R Us, but I was also looking at the Graco Sport PNP that also can be used as a tent. It is pricier, but it looks pretty cool and I think we will be using it often enough so price is not an issue. Do you know of any others I should look at?

This is the one I want. I like it because grown people can fit under it also.

Friends of ours who used to live by the beach have one from OSA and it worked really well when we shared it with them.

Hi,
I just bought a Eureka Solar Shade. I am using it with my 4 month old. It is great shade and bug protection. Because it has poles, it does take 3-5 minutes to set up, but once up it is stable. I bought it online and got free shipping. It arrived very quickly. Here is the link http://www.cspoutdoors.com/eusosh.html
I got the medium sized one. I can stand in it, have a chair and place for baby to nap or play.

Good luck,

What about the larger tent canopies you can buy at Target, a sporting good store, etc... That way anyone can fit under it and you can use it for longer.

Do a search for "cabana" and you'll get alot more options. I'm partial to these

but haven't gotten around to ordering just yet. It's tall in addition to being wide so you don't have to stoop and crawl to get in and out. I also like that you don't have to deal with poles since its one of those that just pop open.

We bought one from LLBean last year. It is quick/easy to set up, collapses to a tiny size, and worked great. Good quality and it definitely had the space/size we were looking for.

We have this one I think:

It is out of stock but you may be able to find it somewhere else. I second the recommendation to get one big enough for at least one adult too. We used ours last summer when DS was 5 months and I could nurse him in there. As he gets older and wants us to help him play in the sand, etc. I think it is nice to be able to fit in there with him.

He sat outside in it recently at 15 months and seemed to enjoy it.

eta: the material has a high spf. If you get a regular tent/cabana type thing it probably won't have spf material although it provides shade....something to consider.

Yes a cabana! Thank you all... these all look like better options.

I just returned from a week at the beach with my 16 month old and two greyhounds. Because I've had melanoma, we wanted to make sure my son and I had a place to go out of the son while on the beach. We purchased the Kelgar Kwik Cabana III online from BRU, and it was wonderful!!! Super easy set up, stakes to hold it to the ground (it was windy) and incredibly lightweight. It's bigger than the I or II versions, and has much better ventilation. It was pricy (about $100) but well worth it in our opinion.

Unfortunately I don't have a good picture of it to share, but it was plenty big enough for me, my son and an occasional dog to sit in comfortably.

We have that family cabana from One Step Ahead - LOVE it. It fits adults, kids, toys, etc. Well worth the $
