View Full Version : Looking for simple (slower?) songs/music...

Most of the songs for children are (imo) a little on the "fast" side. Does anyone have any experience with songs/music where the words are simple and on the "slow" side. We dance to Heffalump's soundtrack alot, but I realized the other day that it's the ballads she likes best. Please share your experience with simple music for little ones (whether they're young or older and delayed, like my dd). TIA!

What about these 2? I have the first one like it- Julia still prefers her faster music though.

Have you ever heard the Signing Time CDs? They are about the only cds that I can listen to everyday. I actually like them a lot. Julia asks for it every day. Even if you don't have the DVDs or are signing, the music is still great, has a good message and is even appealing to adults. The music is about feelings, family, teaches colors, the ABCs, fruits/veggies, etc.
I think the only place that you can order just the CD is the Signing Time website. http://www.signingtime.com/products/
If you scroll down you can hear the Rainbow song from Volume 6.

Hope this helps.

Anne Murray - there's a hippo in my tub.

I can't seem to find the cd on any US website, but can find it on a Canadian one (the music itself is old, but the cd is still for sale.) http://tinyurl.com/cwgo8

Because it's Anne Murray, her songs are mostly ballad types. Some spunk but nothing like Raffi. Think the '70's!

If you can find it, grab it. I'll keep looking for somewhere you can sample the music.

Hope you enjoy it.

Nothing else brings me back to childhood faster than her version of the Teddy Bears' Picnic!

I love the Signing Time CD too, whether or not you sign. Some of the songs are still fast, though.

The Twila Paris CD Bedtime Prayers, Lullabies and Peaceful Worship is really nice. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005AKIM/qid=1121611164/sr=2-2/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_2/104-3745249-9007963

Hello! My daughters love Landslide by the Dixie Chicks. : ) It's slow and they can sing along. They also enjoy the CD by Discovery Toys -- especially the alphabet song. I find the entire CD to be a good slow speed. Great thread! Thanks for starting! : )

Ida,
I'm so glad I saw this, it's right up my alley. The best CD ever for delayed children is "Time To Sing!" It was created by a member of the Pittsburgh Orchestra whose son has apraxia. He created it after he noticed his son crying when he couldn't sing along with Barney. There are two CDs now, I and II, and you can get them at www.timetosing.org, amazon, or http://www.pittsburghsymphony.org/curtaincall.html which is the website for the symphony shop. Essentially they are children's classics that have been slowed down so that all children can enjoy them. It's really a great cd.

Good luck!

We like Raffi a lot. We just got Bananaphone from the library last week and DD absolutely loves it. It's got a great mix of slow and faster songs (but none too fast), and he usually has an instrumental and one nonEnglish song. He's easy to catch on and sing along with and DD has already starting singing some of the songs (and she only listens to him in the car and she rides around about 30 minutes total in a day).

I also heard good things about Kenny Loggin's Return to Pooh Corner (or something like that). We also have the Signing Times CDs (they came with the DVDs) and DD absolutely loves those too.

Allison--I just had to post again....thank you! They have a Christmas CD. I spent hours the other night going through CD's on Amazon looking for a CD with "Jingle Bells" at a reasonable pace. It's my dd's favorite song. It almost brought tears to my eyes seeing it....these things are really helpful and meaningful to us with kids with delays. thanks again!
