Anyone have a Children's book of bible/torah stories that you and your children enjoy? I am looking for something that has nice illustrations and simple language.

Thanks!

I generally buy individual books for the holidays however, we do have this one which is still too old for my 4 yo but close. It is A First Book of Jewish Bible Stories.

Product Details:
ISBN: 0789485044
Format: Hardcover, 48pp
Pub. Date: February 2002
Publisher: DK Publishing, Inc.
Edition Description: 1 AMER ED
Edition Number: 1
Barnes & Noble Sales Rank: 311,764
Age Range: 4 to 8

I have also found that my daughter likes to read the actual Children's Prayer Book that we use at the children's Shabbat service. I bought a copy from my synagogue.

Hi Michele,
Thanks for your response. I will search for the book you mentioned. We are currently living in Japan and belong to a very small Jewish community...mostly adults and only a few other families. We used to have a rabbi and regular family services, but now we don't have either. We fly a student rabbi out for holiday services. We celebrate Shabbat in our home and I thought it would be nice to start reading stories as part of our weekly celebration.

Is the Children's Service Prayer Book available for purchasing on-line?

Thanks again,

It might be available through URJ (Union for Reform Judaism). I will check the website and the exact name of the prayer book and get back to you.

We live in Kentucky with also a very small Jewish community about 20 families if that. We don't have a rabbi either. One of us just leads the services. Because of that, we joined a synagogue in a larger city 1 1/2 hours away. We don't go often but we try every once in a while.

This is a link to many jewish children's books. We have a children's megillah (book of Esther)from there, it has wonderful illustrations. Most of the books have a sample page online, so you can sample what kind of text and illustrations are there.

Here is another site with an abundant selection of jewish children's books:

I've bought from them, and was pleased with service.

We have the Hannukah book from this series (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0789478900/ref=pd_sim_b_2/104-2708228-4281525?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance) and for some reason, Abby LOVES it. It's really a little old for her, but she likes the pictures. As she gets older, there are "activities" - match the shapes, colors, etc. The Amazon link shows the others in that series. Not the same as Bible stories, but may be something you want to add to your book collection.
