My 18 month old DS loves to play with latches (like on his booster seat) or snaps (on my wallet) or his shoe laces, etc.

I seem to remember some sort of book or toy growing up that had all these "manual dexterity" activities that kids could do- does anyone know if there is something like this still on the market?

Thanks!!

Amy

Melissa and Doug makes a latches board:

We have the Latches Board the PP mentioned and also the Dress-a-Pillar by Discovery Toys. http://www.discoverytoysinc.com/toys2b.htm

Both are probably a little advanced for an 18 month old, though. Some of the latches work really hard. There also is a M&D Latches Box.

I don't know a specific one off the top of my head, but if you search online for occupational therapy catalogs/fine motor skills/self help type things it should come up. Occupational therapists use these to teach dressing skills so I'd probably google therapy catalogs or something along those lines. Flaghouse may have them if you want to try there.

BTW, my DS loves this stuff too at 17 months :) We have a little cloth book that has various buckles, buttons, velcro, etc. activities on it and he likes it. We picked it up at a yard sale :) So, you might also be able to find what you are looking for in book form.

We have this, and it was a hit from months 16-20. Now it's kind of old hat!
