when to move out of crib?

At what age did you move your toddler to a regular bed? We're trying to figure out if we'll be able to give our crib to a friend who is trying to have a baby.

My toddler is 20 months old and we have no plans to move her out of her crib anytime soon--we even ordered a second crib to use for baby #2 (who will arrive when our daughter is 25-26 months old.) She sleeps well in there so we're not messing with a good thing! (By the way, she is very tall for her age--35 inches at 18 months, but still is comfy in her crib!)

My oldest 2 were about 18 months each mainly because they were climbing out by them selves. I will probably switch Nathan at about 2 or if he climbs out sooner.

Kaya's still only 18 months, but she's quite comfy in her crib and I plan on keeping her in there until she's 3! ;) She hasn't tried climbing out yet, but that's partly because we've had a crib tent on it since she was a newborn. In any case, when she's tired, she really dives in there, and I think she feels safe and comfy in it. Depending on the timing of a second child and how she's doing with the crib, we may have to purchase a second crib, but I'm planning on playing that by ear.

We moved DD out of the crib at 16 months, because I needed the crib for her new brother. We put a mattress on the floor of the room and she would end up all over the room.

She just turned 2 and her mattress is now on the box spring.

Oooh, a crib tent from birth, I'll have to consider that!

I pushed my 22 mo out of his crib before his baby sister arrived when he was 25 mos, and it was a drag... I made his room completely safe and used a doorknob cover to keep him in there... still, I don't know what I was thinking!
My dd started climbing out at 22 months so we converted her crib into a toddler bed.

Thanks for the input everybody. I guess it sounds like it really varies. We probably won't offer the crib to our friends since Rory would only be just 2 when the new baby is born (if they were to get pg right away). She *might* be ready for the big bed, but maybe not.
