My 3yo loves stethescopes and doctor's kits. Anybody seen an adorable one that I can get her for Christmas?

I'm not sure about adorable, but DS loves the FP one. I actually had the FP one as a child and it's pretty much the same (other than the case) and it was one of my favorite childhood toys.

That's the one we have too. Both kids really like it. But I agree, I'm not sure it would fall in the "adorable" category. :)

We have the FP one as well. It's the only one I could find when I started looking for one to buy. I did see a different set at TRU a couple months before that, but of course when I went back they only had the FP one.

My DD loves hers. Not to mention it looks like all the doctors kits they use on kids shows (like Blue's Clues), so she runs and gets hers out everytime they're using the pieces on the show.

I hate the updated FP doctor kit. The stethoscope doesn't work and the pieces are very hard to fit back into the case. I wish I still had my original one from the 80's.

FWIW, I wasn't that excited about my stethoscope from the 80s either. They are almost identical IMO. However, you can hear sounds through the stethoscope. A heart beat, probably not. You need a real stethoscope for that.

Actually, my only complaint about the updated version is that the blood pressure sleeve is really small. DS always wants to take my blood pressure and I have to hold it too low on my arm. I think some extra velcro would help, though.

The BP cuff and the plastic bandaid--both are toddler size only. It's painful having a toddler trying to squeeze that bandaid onto your wrist or ankle!

we love the Pretend and Play kit by Learning Resources.

I realize that, but it actually doesn't even stay on DS's arm well. The bandaid does, but not the blood pressure cuff.

I don't remember the brand, but I saw a really cute one at TJ Maxx yesterday. No play stove, but some cute toys and puzzles. It looks like the offerings of TJ Maxx and Marshalls and other similar stores will vary from place to place. So you may want to check out those places near you.

I know this is neurotic but I actually made my own doctor's kit by buying stuff off ebay and medical supply stores. So now we have a real otoscope, stethoscope, blood pressure monitor and those things you bang on the knee with. I supplemented by putting in regular bandaids, a syringe we used to use for giving the baby drugs (for "shots") and empty prescription bottles. I put them all in a red cardboard suitcase and put a red cross sticker on it - DS loves it and plays with it all the time and I think it will grow with him as well. You'd be surprised at how cheap a real stethoscope can be!

Wow, what a great idea! I'll have to file it away in my brain as a future "toy". :)
