I've read in a few places that it's nice to store toddler's books in a basket so that he can flip through them to find what he wants. Sounds good to me. But, all the baskets I'm finding that are the right length and width are pretty tall on the sides. Anyone have a good basket that has lower sides?

This is exactly what we do and it works great for us!
We have a set of 3 baskets that we got from Babies R Us. I'm sorry I don't know the brand name but you can find them in 'organization' section with the hampers and closet organizers and stuff. They come in a box, not freestanding, of that helps. You can also buy pretty basket covers in different patterns and colors, too!

My neighbor has one of those organizers that people use for cleaning supplies--it has a handle and two sides, which would normally carry bottles, and other cleaning supplies. It's a perfect size with low enough sides so that board books can sit in very easily, but which can be easily accessed by her toddler. I'm planning on picking up a couple the next time I go to Target or Walmart.

Check Pier One. I got a bunch of baskets from there for cheap last month or so (during a basket sale); the regular prices aren't bad and there's a wide selection. Some that I bought would be perfect for what you're describing... (You can also check the website. I think they have about 8 pages on baskets online, many of which I saw in the store.)
