DS has a few trucks by Little Tikes and of course matchbox cars but the ones we plays with the most are his chunky digger and dump truck we found at a resale shope. They are not nearly has large at the LT stuff or nearly at tiny as matchbox....where can I find chunky vehichles...that can be easily gripped by his toddler hands? Thanks!

Discovery toys has a set of dump trucks which are very nice and well-sized.

Tolo toys also makes a whole line. Here are some:

We have several plastic vehicles from Viking Toys. Kidsurplus carries them, but only in a big set.

We bought them individually at an independent toy store. We got the 4 inch ones but they also have smaller and larger ones. I think the 4 inch ones are the best size for DS (and also easy to throw in the diaper bag).

We also have these wooden cars.

They are also a good size for DS to carry around.

Hi Christine!

Just thought I'd chime in to recommend the vehicles from Pottery Barn Kids! :) I've given the Gas Station and Train set to my nephew Sam as a gift. He will be 2 in Dec. He loves to hold these in his hands every where he goes! They have a new Airport and Boat set that I will be giving him for his B-Day and Christmas. The emergency set is so cool to! If you've got an outlet near by I'd definitely check it out! The sets aren’t cheap but these are really loved by Sam and extremely durable. Maybe you could start with one set and see how it goes or ask Grandma for a set. I really think these would work out for you!

Another idea would be to get some people sets too. I got a whole horse ridding set at Marshalls for $30! He especially loves to hold the wooden family, wagon, and lawn mower.

Happy Hunting! :)

My daughter has the Little People dump truck and loves it--it is very chunky and easy for her to manuever. It comes with one driver (who she calls Bob...after her Bob the Builder books) and two large boulders...that she refers to as meatballs. LOL!
