Tyler is officially too big for his infant carrier but he is not sitting up yet. I don't sling and a lot of places we go are not ideal to take a stroller in to. What do I do now when we are out to eat or shopping. Is there anything that helps them stay upright in the shopping cart or highchair? I am wondering if I should just leave the infant carrier in the car (secured) to just use when we go shopping or out to eat. Also keeping my fingers crossed that he will be much happier in his marathon. All he does is scream in his carrier, but then again all he really does is scream anywhere.:)
TIA

I definitely would get a nice cushy shopping cart cover- we got ours from angelyn rose on ebay (angelynrose.com) but they are the same idea as the sewcuteboutique.com ones. They are cushy with batting, reversible, and come with a little pillow to help prop baby up as well. And they have their own nice strap to strap baby into the cart or highchair. I use mine just about everyday!! DD's pretty small, so usually I will have the pillow in front of her, my bag on one side and a rolled up blanket on the other side to make her nice and cozy in there, but she does really well in it. I attach a toy to the front and she just looks around and chews on her toy the whole time, it's seriously one of the best purchases I have made since she was born! And it works really well in restaurant high chairs (but you don't need anything to prop in there since they are much smaller). I started using it with DD around 5 months old, she wasn't sitting yet on her own well but she had good head control, could sit on our laps, etc.

Pretty much the same advice as PP (I even bought the cart cover from the same person - she lives a few miles from me!) I did keep the carrier in the car for awhile - there were just some situations where it was easier to have DS in the carrier (especially if he was sleepy!)

Even though he shouldn't be in the infant carseat in the car, that doesn't mean you can't use it in a shopping cart or at a restaurant. I'd keep it in the trunk when you go out, then transfer him when you get to your destination. At least until he's big enough to sit in a shopping cart or high chair on his own.

What about using something like an ergo carrier or a patapum? It's easier to get the hang of than a sling.

I had the same problem when my DS grew out of his infant carrier at 4 months. I swear by the Sit 'n Stroll as it is a car seat, stroller, resaurant seat, you name it. I used it full time until he was able to walk. I still use it when we travel by airplane

What about a Bumbo seat for restaurants? Wouldn't work in the shopping cart probably, but would have lots of other uses. I think I'm going to get one.

Your child is probably a little bit young, but once he's close to sitting up, I used the Sit N Secure ALL the time until about 18 months:

I have a tall skinny one, and he would just slide down in high chairs, shopping carts, etc. It kept him up and from tipping over to the side, and also pretty secure. And its nice and small to carry around.

I just posted pretty much this same question! We just purchased a Bumbo seat (although it hasn't come yet). So far we've been able to use the stroller although I got a lot of suggestions for using the infant carrier part of the old carrier--just use the Marathon in the car, but it's fine to use the carrier in stores and/or restaurants (carry it in the trunk if it will fit).

I was wondering about the shopping cart padded thing too--if that would be enough to keep DS upright in a highchair and I may try that too.

DS goes to sleep so early that restaurants haven't been an issue yet, but I'm hoping the Bumbo seat might work for when we do because someone can't hold him all the time!

Sorry for any typos--typing with kiddo onboard.
