First thing that comes to mind is playsilks. You could get a set for about $50 from bumbershootbaby.com. I've given them as gifts twice now with rave reviews.

I'll try to think of other ideas....

My twins have LOVED their Aquadoodle from about age 1. just the fact that we let them have a marker and that they could DRAW. LOL

The Aquadoodle is fun (as is the magnadoodle, but in Kaya's case, she prefers that we do the drawing for her. ;) She really loved the preschool duplo lego table ($19.99 at lego.com, but also available at Target/Walmart/TRU, I believe) as did my cousin's son (I got both of them the table for their birthday). According to my cousin, who had a birthday party for her son, all the kids loved the table, including those who were 1 and those who were 2. Lego is one of the big exceptions to the reduction of plastic toys rule in our house. :)

And Kaya at 22 months is only starting to play with playsilks, but still isn't a huge fan of them. On the other hand, if you got her a pair of new sneakers with laces to play with, she would be in heaven! I know, I know, my kid is just weird. :P

We received a music CD with DS name sung in it. You can get them online. DS is napping right now or I would tell you the name. If your interested let me know and I'll tell you the name of the site. The songs are really cute, and DS always asks to hear it.

The best thing I can tell you to get them is My Very Own Name Book.

It's a wonderful gift/keepsake and if you sign up for ebates, I think you might come in at $25. The price on their site directly is $29.95.

This was one of the greatest gifts my DD ever received and the best part is that they can't return it! ;)

That name book looks really cute! My idea was to get a tunnel and a tent. The tunnel can connect to the tent or be played with separately. They can both be collapsed. I have seen them at Amazon, TRU, and TJMaxx. I think each one is around $25. My daughter loves playing with both.
