Hi,

I need a little help choosing a baby monitor. Right now I have the fisher price lights and sounds which has worked out perfectly. But with #2 on the way I am going to need a way to monitor two rooms. What are my options? Do I just get another FP monitor or will they interfere with each other? I defintely need to monitor both rooms. Thanks!

You can try two monitors, but I would almost recommend getting a different brand for the second one, in hopes that it will be different enough not to interfere.

The only one I found that will monitor two rooms is the Safety First Home Connection monitor:

It is a bit pricey, and we had to return one after about a month, but the second one has held up well (4 mos now).

Our monitor situation is not ideal, but it works in a funny way. We have two different FP monitors. They are different models, but they both have two channels. If we have the first monitor (let's call it M1) in Colwyn's room, and the second (M2) in our bedroom, we can have the receiver for M1 in one location, and switch channels to pick up both M1 and M2. We have both M1 and M2's receivers set up in the living room so we can listen to both rooms at the same time, but often the receivers and transmitters get mixed up because they both work on the same channels. If that makes any sense. :)

Here is what I wanted: Lachlann sleeps in our bedroom, and Colwyn has his own room. Transmitter for M1 is in Colwyn's room, with receiver for M1 in our room. Transmitter for M2 is in our room, and picks up noises from both our room, and the transmitted noises from M1's receiver. Thus, we could have just M2's receiver with us but hear both rooms. Unfortunately, it didn't work with the two monitors we got, and I'm not sure why. It works well enough the way we have it that I'm not going to change it.

We had the Safety First Home Connection Monitor and we quit using it after a few months. The receivers had a lot of static and picked up all kinds of noises... they woke us up more than our newborn! Maybe we should have tried another one like the previous poster, but we no longer had the packaging for the return.

For baby #2, we will be using 2 monitors. Connor (16 months) will be monitored by a video monitor so we know if he tries to climb out of the bed, and Bridget (the newborn) will have an audio monitor. Not ideal, but I think it will work out...

I think the static issue is a YMMV thing with any monitor. This one has not had any static since we ditched the cordless phones that used the same frequency (they needed replaced anyway). I have had other monitors that were crystal clear at home and lots of static when travelling as well as the reverse, so it is highly individual.

We returned ours because the volume dial stopped working on one receiver - just took it back to BRU without any packaging and they exchanged it for a new one in the box - this time I kept the box, since I would have to do any future returns directly to Safety 1st under the 1 yr warranty.

I also have 2 under 2 and we first had the fisher price sounds and lights dual monitors. I could not live without the dual monitors. I shopped around for my second set of monitors and bought the Fisher Price 900 MHz Long-Range Monitor with Dual Receivers. I thought I might need the long range if I am outside playing with DS.
