I am spending waaaay too much time obsessing over what doll to give DD for her 1st birthday. I would prefer a brown haired, brown eyed doll. I can't believe the proportion of dolls that have blue eyes!

I am considering:

F-P Little Mommy Asian Doll

F-P Little Mommy Hispanic Doll

Corolle Soft Bodied Asian Doll - not sure I like the body

Corolle Calin Doll - Not sure I like her face, though
http://us.st11.yimg.com/store1.yimg.com/I/kidsurplus_1877_27165755

And I can't find the F-P dolls in any B&M store around here - just the blue-eyed variety. Anyone have any doll advice?

Just wondering if there are no replies to this because no one has actually seen an Asian or Hispanic doll IRL?? If so, that's a sad sad commentary on our country, that the dolls our kids play with don't represent the diversity of our cultures. I for one haven't seen any, but DD isn't into dolls so I haven't really been looking.
BTW, I think the first doll is really cute!

I have seen some posts about Asian dolls while doing a search a while back. There do seem to be quite a variety. Right now, I am obsessed with the dolls from Magic Cabin - they come in all different skin and eye colors. They are a Waldorf-style doll. If only my dd actually liked dolls!

I still keep looking for them in stores and haven't seen them. Even the African American Little Mommy Dolls are tough to find. I think it's disappointing because I think there is obviously a market for more diverse dolls. And all the dolls are proudly displayed on the Little Mommy doll boxes...but the seem only to be available online??

What about those American Girl dolls? Can't you pick the eye color, hair color, etc..? I don't know much about them but I thought they came in lots of different combinations. I think they now have a biracial doll - her background info indicates her mom is Japanese-American and her dad is Irish-American. I'll try to find a link.

ETA: I just looked at the American Girl website. The doll I described above is named Jess. But she's for kids 8 years old or older. They do have other dolls called Bitty Babies for ages 3 and up. You can pick the complexion, eye color, and hair color. The 2 brunettes with brown eyes come in a light complexion and a medium complexion.

How about one of the baby bottom dolls? You can get an infant or a toddler (with potty) in White, Asian, Black, Hispanic Boy and Girl (they are anatomically correct--at least the toddler ones are).

You can go to Tykiediapers.com and Ann sells these. If she doesn't have the specific gender and race that you want, you can e-mail her and ask and she'll probably help you find it. Kaya loves her Toddler version of the Asian girl doll (and so does her friend, actually, who spent an hour undoing and redoing her diaper!). I got a sling and diaper from Ann to go with it. :)

Just my opinion, but the faces on the FP dolls freak me out and they just look like white babies with colored skin rather than changing facial features too. My daughter is hispanic and looks nothing like that hispanic doll!

Asia for Kids has a great selection of multicultural dolls:

There are lots of multicultural dolls out there mostly via the internet. Just do a search. Here is a few. www.joyswaldorfdolls.com www.dollsofallcolors.com. www.corolle.com. www.ethnicdollsdepot.com www.liveandlearn.com.

I have a daughter born in Guatemala and one born in China so I am always on the search. Avoid the local Walmart, Target, and Toysrus except for generic looking dolls by Barbie or F-P. All they do is darken the skin.

I havent seen the Asian doll but our Walmart and Target have the Hispanic one. I think that they are really cute. My dd has the blond/blue one she got for her b-day and she loves it. She just got the bitty baby twin doll (older dd has the other one) and those are a HUGE Hit. I highly recommend them especially since you custom order the bitty babies and get the hair and eyes etc that you want. www.americangirl.com

I think that some of the outfits are expensive and lots of WAHMs make them, but I do have to admit the quality is fantastic. My girls got the cribs and mobiles for xmas and they are really well made and durable. Good luck on your hunt!

I just remembered reading about these dolls a while back in the paper:

We have the Corelle Calin doll, and we have the white version of the FP doll. I think the Corelle foll is super cute, but for some reason dd LOVES the FP dolls. She is crazy about the Little Mommy dolls. (I highly doubt it has anything to do with color, and if I ever saw the hispanic or asian version I'd probably buy it too. Representing diversity is important to me. :)

My biracial daughter got the African-American Little Mommey doll for her first birthday. At first, I didn't exactly like it since all the faces are about the same with just different skin tones, but I did like that the skin tone of the doll was close to DD. Now I like it a lot because my daughter does. I also like it ecause the body is soft but the limbs and face are realistic (my preference for dolls), and if you wanted to buy other outfits for it, you could. Also, it seems just a tad smaller than other traditional baby dolls, which makes it a good size for a 1 year old.

The toys that come with it are fairly useless, IMO, although my almost 4 year old is occasionally interested in feeding the doll the bottle.
