Just curious whether anyone here lets their dcs hit a particular toy, either with their hands or other toys. Dd is going through a hit-everything-with-everything phase, and I wondered whether it would make sense to try to channel it somewhere.

Thanks,
Jude

I tried that kind of redirection - saying, "we don't hit the dog (or whatever), but we can hit drums" for example. I also had a couple of those nerf-like bats that i'd keep out of reach and bring out for hitting.

But mostly, what cured my DD of the hitting phase was growing out of it. ;)

Not sure what type of toy you're looking for, Jude, or what type of hitting Rory likes.

Jazz is into "drumming." No, we don't have a drum, but we "play drums" on chairs and balls. Her most recent drum is using thos wooden paint stirrers and playing on the carpet.

We have one of these (M&D Pound-a-peg):

Jazz doesn't get it yet and always wants me to pull the pegs out. Rory may be ready.

You could always get an inflatable bat from your local baseball stadium. ;)

we have the pound the apple thing from brio and a wooden drum set. not sure how much it helps with the hitting, we're also in that stage, but i try to direct her to those two toys when she's been really aggressive. i'm just hoping it's another fun toddler phase that dd will grow out of.

Yes! We have a Parents toy from Target that is awesome. DD still likes it at 3 & my 7 mo. is also intersted. I think it was only $12.

Musical instruments--drums, tone blocks, tambourine with a mallet, xylophone, etc.

There is also a toy called a "whacky stick". It's basically this super-soft small bat that you can whack into pretty much anything without hurting it. It makes noise--animals sounds on one setting and funny sounds on another.

Here's what it looks like, although I think I have a different version that cost a few bucks less:

DS1 has Snoopy Golf Clubs, hopefully this coming summer we'll get him real clubs.

Like the other PP's have said, drums are great for redirecting the hitting phase. our DS has always found someway to drum on everything around him, and for Xmas we got him this great drumset:
