Playyard flooring

Can anyone recommend softish flooring for a small outdoor playarea? Yes, money does matter...For my 2 yr old.

I was thinking of some mats that are used in the gym but not sure what the rain etc would do to it.

What have you ladies done?

i don't know how these would do with rain, etc... but my brother and parents both have used the foam (?) puzzle pieces with letters and numbers on their floors. my brother has hardwood and my parents used them on an area that was bare floor until they got their addition carpeted.

For what it's worth - Step 2 makes 24inch blue foam puzzle mats (like the multicolored alphabet mats but thicker and bigger and only in blue). They come in a pack of 4 for $20. We use them in our family room on top of our hard wood floors. I've never used them outside but they do say that they are waterproof and they are significantly thicker and bigger than the alphabet mats. Good luck.
