I am looking for some new cars for DS#2. We have plenty of matchbox, siku, hotwheels type cars. I am looking more for good cars for a 15+month old with growing room (nothing to babyish). I am leary of wooden ones because I have a couple of wood ones and DS#2 sucks on them until the wood is soft and digs his teeth into it!!! So it would have to pass the beaver test (I swear this is a baby beaver!! his toys, his cars, his crib, anything wood!!!!) Any suggestions? Hopefully online as it is easier!!!! Tractors are fine too, just durablitiy is a must!!! Good size for littler hands ! TIA!

We have had these forever, they have been played with in many ways:

Those shake and go racers look interesting. A fried of mine says her 2 year old and 6 year old love them.

DS is obessed with cars (and trains, and planes, and buses, anything with wheels) so I can answer this one! We have a few of the Chubby vehicles mentioned by the pp and they are great. We also have some Huggy Buggies that are great, last forever, and are safe (PVC-free and safe for your furniture, too!) I didn't get them at this site but this link shows them...

We also have a few larger trucks from Little Tykes, Fischer Price, Playschool, etc. It is nice to have the variety of sizes but DS does prefer the small sizes.

I am looking at the Chubby vehicles. I think they might be durable enough. I would love some wooden ones, anyone have a good recommendation that can take a lot of beating????

We have tried lots of different wood cars with not much luck. They get dinged, the paint comes off, wheels come off, they chip...
Once the boys graduate to the bigger classic wooden trucks there are lots of durable options.

Have you tried the Debresk (Sweden) ones?
They're REALLY sturdy and unpainted, finished with linseed oil(I think).
They've been played with daily for a couple of years now and look almost brand new.
They're also really aesthetically pleasing.
I picked them up at a local Waldorf school, I'm not sure if you can get them online.

We have these 2 cars made by Vilac.

The quality is very good and we have not had any problems with paint chipping or wheels coming off. DS is pretty rough on his toys. They've been dropped numerous times on our wooden floors and they still look good. Don't know how they would hold up to being chewed on though as DS was mostly past that stage when we gave him the cars.
