My son's 1st birthday is next month. My MIL wants to get him a sandbox. She doesn't have the best judgment in buying things (you should SEE the wagon she bought us!! ACK!) So, I want to give her a suggestion.

Which sandbox do you have? I want one that is bigger, that can fit 2-3 young kids. We have a 1/2 acre backyard, so space isn't an issue. I want it to last for my son, and any children to come. I'd love a wooden one... but, I would want a cover.

Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Stephanie

Hearthsong has a really nice one that isn't too expensive.

It isn't wooden but we have the Naturally Playful sandbox

and we've been very happy with it. There are some old threads on this. It is nice because the cover fits very securely, it is big enough for 2 or even 3 kids, and the color isn't too obnoxious or anything.

I think last year there was one sold at Costco (if I'm remembering correctly) that looked similar to the wooden boat from PB Kids but was less expensive. There may be some old threads on that. I don't remember if the reviews were good or not, but it was cute :)

ETA: I searched the archives and didn't see much about the Costco wooden sandbox. They have this one on their website now though: (not sure if this is the same as last year's)

Again, I have no idea of how well the cover fits and I didn't look that closely at the size.

We have the Step 2 sandbox mentioned above.

I like it. It has a cover, is tasteful in the yard and can fit 2 kids pretty well, athough at this point, now that DS is nearly 3, I don't know if 2 kids, and definitely not more, could play comfortably in there with big trucks. but it works for us. I like the cover. Less bugs and no cats using as litter box!
