I think Ethan would love a little exersaucer time, but I can't stomach the noisy, ugly plastic one I had when Abby was a baby. Tell me there's a wooden alternative and tell me where to find it! :)

I have not ever seen one. If you can handle a bit of plastic, buy the simplest/cheapest one you can find at a garage sale or consignment shop. Remove all noisy toys, drill some holes on the edges and use links or ribbon to tie small wooden or cloth toys to it.

My sister got one off freecycle by posting a wanted, and it was an older model with only a few toys, some missing. She did this and actually liked it better than her old one since she could swap the toys out.

Unfortunately, Rachel, I think that the companies that would be most likely to make a wooden one would not be the first to recommend its use--a marketing quandary.

What might be good as an alternative is one of those funny Bumbo chairs that are out now and a floor gym with toys attached--Haba has some nice ones at Moolka if you don't mind the price.

I second trying to find an old one. We had one that was on its 4th or 5th kid. It had no attached toys and no batteries and no noise. Just a circular tray. :) I see them at our 2nd hand shop frequently. I think it was Evenflo? The tray part was yellow.

Alternately, how about a door jumper? We had a Graco one that had a tray around it, so the seat was supported similar to a exersaucer (ie, not just a pouch between two bars). Both kids loved that thing from 4 months until they were walking.
