I have another birthday question to add to the other posts. Does anyone have good suggestions for our soon-to-be 1yr old DD? She is 10 months old now, and we are already noticing that she is bored with many of her toys. (She has a ride-on toy that was a hand-me-down) We are planning on giving her the everywhere chair for her birthday, but do you have other suggestions? Easter is the weekend before, so I'll take ideas for her basket as well. I'm already going to order egg shakers and playsilks thanks to the other posters--you have such good ideas! TIA!

DH and I feel like the plastic toys are taking over!!

How about those wooden toys with a stick in the middle and the donut shaped (or variants) pieces that stack on the stick? Kaya has played with hers (she has one with 3 columns and one with a single column and I believe they are both M&D and we got them from Kidsurplus) for a very long time and still plays with them. You can also get a version with four shorter poles that have a square, rectange, triangle and circle with different numbers of holes, although that is more advanced, I think.

wooden puzzles are fun... How about a Kettler trike? I know this is a plastic noisy toy but DS is very intrigued by this toy right now.... my neighbor has one and they had one at the peds office and he loves it!

I'm with Eileen, I got the M&D rainbow stacker as a Christmas present for my ds who turned one 2 days after Christmas. It is by far his favorite toy! And my dd, who is 2 1/2 uses the rings to serve donoughts at her tea parties! The best $4 I ever spent!

Some other ideas:

gertie ball (or any type of ball really)
stacking cups
building blocks
wooden cars

Have fun!

DD is just over 13 months old and right now she is really into blocks and those sorts of things. She loves to play with blocks, large legos (made for her age) and shape sorters. She can't put the shapes in the right holes now, of course, but she takes off the lid and puts them in. Everything is about taking things out and putting them back in right now. I have a medium sized box for her toys and we just dump it on the floor. She will sit and put things in and out for quite a while. She also uses the shape sorter and the box the Legos came in to do this. I think you can find similar type things in wood if you don't want them in platic (well...except for Legos). This might be a good idea if you don't already have those types of things.

I know it doesn't sound very exciting, but that's what she likes to do!

Another of her favorites is the Radio Flyer Walker Wagon. I did get this as a birthday gift, but before her birthday since she was cruising already (probably around your DD's age). She loves to push it and also gets in it to be pushed. She puts toys in it and pushes it around. I can see getting long term use out of it. Got this thanks to the recommendations of the great ladies on this board! I often tell DH that it is one of the best toys we ever got for her.

BTW, that is an excellent price! After a lot of research, the best price I could find a few months ago was about $60.

What a great deal. We got one for DD last month and she absolutely loves it. She cruises all around the house with it. I would highly recommend it as well.

We gave DS some Haba fantasy blocks (which he plays with a lot), a Haba goblin train and a HUGE (2 feet tall) Richard Scarry board book, Biggest Word Book Ever!, which he adores.

FP Little people sets (new pink castle one and the pirate ship are adorable!)
123 Playmobil set, there is a cute farm or family house. DS loves these!
Or how about a really special baby doll, bitty baby from american girl is really really nice and something she could grow into. And if you go the doll route, a nice doll stroller is popular.

I always go with something that they can grow into, because at 1 they are growing so quickly.

Thanks so much for the suggestions--I knew you'd have some great ideas! I'm thinking about the water table, blocks and the doll--as well as the peg toy. As far as the walker-wagon--do you think the tires will stand up to a gravel driveway, or would it be better inside? It is such a good bargain, and after your recommendations I don't want to pass it up!

The wheels on the wagon are hard plastic. They would probably stand up to a gravel driveway, but I think it would be kind of hard to use as it would be bouncing around. We only use it indoors. I did try outside on the sidewalk a couple of times, but DD was too interested in crawling around and trying to eat leaves to really play with it outside - LOL!

$39.99 is truly a great deal - sure wish I'd have found a deal like that when we were shopping for ours!
