View Full Version : Portable crib?

We have to go visit my ILs for 2 nights at the end of March. Last time we went (October) DD could not sleep in the Pack & Play. At that point, she seemed pretty tall for it, but she wasn't able to climb then so I wasn't worried. Now, at 34 inches tall and 26.5 lbs, she climbs all over and out of everything (except her crib, thankfully). In addition to dreading another weekend of her not sleeping, I'm worried about her safety in the P&P.

Is something like this safe for a large 19 month old? I can't find any height/weight limits.

Any other suggestions? She is definitely not ready for a bed. She needs to be contained or would be running around all night.

TIA!

Hmm...if you're willing to spend that much on a portable crib, how about a playard tent, for your pack and play:

I am sorry, I don't have an answer. I am interested in this topic. My DS isn't ready for a bed yet, but he is uncomfortable in the PNP. He rolls around and tosses all night. The crib you posted doesn't look much better. The mattress looks thin and uncomfortable. My DH wants to visit his father in NC next month and I have no idea how my child will sleep. I'm piggy backing onto your post, but does anyone have a solution for this problem?

Thanks Eileen, but since DD really doesn't like the P&P, I was hoping to get something more like a crib.

I had the same thought. Kolcraft makes a mattress for it, I'm wondering if that would help. I think I'll end up getting it, anything has to be better than our last P&P experience! Baby Center has free shipping, which seems to make it the best deal.

Okay, well, we haven't tested it yet, but we did get an inexpensive pop-up tent (<$10) at target and then we got a Ready Bed for her. We're going to combine the two and zip up the tent at night and see if it works for when we travel. Although she can easily do zippers, we may just use a pipecleaner on the outside to keep the tent closed at night. But again, I haven't tested it, but that's our current plan for when we travel in April.

Is the mattress in the PnP just too uncomfortable? The last two times we've traveled, we've wrapped the mattress in a thick towel and she seems to like that much better. Maybe that would work?

We bought the Kolcraft Mattress for our PNP and my dd who will be 2 at the end of the month sleeps 12-14 hours a night very comfortable in it. The only problem may be for your situation is it is thicker so it raises them up about 2 inches. So she would be able to climb out even easier.

We have added mattresses to both our DC's pack and plays and a tent to DD's. It has worked brilliantly.

getting an add on mattress or putting a couple layers of towels down has definitely helped my guys sleep better in their pack and plays.

And that tent is worth its weight in gold- as are the ones on our cribs at home and Grandpa's!

I don't know where you're going, but you might try seeing if there is someplace you can rent a crib from. We rent a full size crib from babysaway when we go visit ILs in CA and Other family in MI. it's so much easier than trying to worry about where the baby will sleep.

Okay a friend of ours has a nice camping mattress and they took their supergate with them on their last trip. They set up the supergate like a rectangle and then put the mattress in the middle. Their son loved sleeping in it. During the day, they would open one of the doors and he could walk in and out (that's what we do with ours--it's Kaya's reading/comfort area).

2nd possibility is something we're considering when we travel in April--besides the tent, one of the rooms in the house we're staying in has a large walk-in closet. We're pretty sure our ready bed can fit inside. So we're thinking of opening the door, putting in a gate, and then letting Kaya sleep in the closet.
