My DD is turning 1 in less than 3 weeks and I need to make up my mind on what toys to buy for her. I need some recommendations on favorite 1st birthday toys in general but also favorite Haba toys and I would also like some recommendations on good musical toys.
Please help as the birthday is fast approaching and I haven't ordered anything yet.
Thank you

My DD loves her Haba Sun Mansion - http://www.kidsurplus.com/hab1011.html And this is a really great price.

We also have wooden xylophone which has been a big hit and the Radio Flyer Rolling Pony.

HTH!

Thank you so much,
Where do you get the wooden xylophone. Is that made by Haba?

My DD received this Haba toy as a gift at 16 months and absolutely loves it -

It is out of stock currently at Oompa but you may be able to find it somewhere else. Also, they carry other toys with a similar concept that would probably work just as well.

Another great toy (which I gave for her 1st bday) is the Radio Flyer Classic Wagon - she has played with it for as long as a half hour at a time and she used to cry if we took her away from it.

We gave her a plastic toy piano which she loves. When she is older (2 or 3), we'll get her one of those nice wooden expensive ones.

Finally, the FP LP house is another one of her favorites.

HTH

Here are a couple of DS's favorite Haba toys right now:

Blocks (We have 3 sets of the blocks and he loves them right now since he's into stacking)

He also got a Haba Fabric book that he likes to play with a lot and the Goblin Truck.

I also recommend the Melissa and Doug Music Toys (DS loves his xylophone), egg shakers, Maraquitas and Remo tom tom drum. Oh and the wrist jingle bells are great too.

www.westmusic.com for the music toys. They don't carry Melissa and Doug but you can probably find those at a local toy store.

Here's the link for the xylophone http://www.oompa.com/cgi-bin/item/VO As it says in the description - it does not play a perfect octave and is not anywhere close, however the tone is very nice & I do get do-mi-so on the pink-red-orange bars. For a childs toy I think it is just fine and DD loves to bang on it, though we only use the mallets when I am playing it with her. One of the things I really like about this is the size, it is 19 inches long and the bars are about 2 inches wide.

If you are really interested in an instrument that is tuned I found this one at a comparable price. http://www.larkinthemorning.com/product.asp_Q_pn_E_MAR070_A_Wooden+Xylophone_E_

Ditto on the ball track. We got it for Simon's first birthday and he has loved it :)

He also loves his ball pit. I ordered one from Sensory Edge, but I know there are a lot of options out there :)

Simon loved his play kitchen starting at around that age too (we got it for Christmas when he was 13 months).

Big wooden puzzles, shape sorters, anything he can push (we have the Haba car and love it as well as a shopping cart from the playstore and a bubble mower for outside), stacking toys are all big hits.

Recently we got the Radio Flyer Retro Rocket...HUGE hit.
