Playground - polyethylene coating

I have also been looking at a playground set and was interested in the ones with lumber and a protective polyethylene coating. I like the idea of not having to stain and no splinters. Is there a problem with the polyethylene coating? Is there something that I am missing?

I think this is the kind Home Depot sells. I just know that their display looked pretty beat up with the plastic cracked and dented. I don't know if that would happen in actual use.
