I would like to reclaim my fridge surface, so I am looking to make a magnetic board like 3'x2' for my kids magnet toys. Any ideas??? I want; something like a fridge surface.

Melissa and Doug make one that comes with the alphabet letters- it is a chalk/magnetic surface on one side and dry erase on the other.

I have read (probably on this board!) to use a cookie sheet.
You could also designate a space on your wall and paint it with magnetic paint.

Our fridge is stainless steel, so magnets don't stick. We bought a silvery "magnet board" from Bed Bath and Beyond to hang on the wall near the fridge. They were located by the bulletin boards. I think they came in various sizes.
Target has ordinary looking magnetic bulletin boards in the office section. They usually have a more decorative version in the home decor section for girls' bedrooms.

For the size I am looking for It seems like I will pay a bundle. I have twins and two sets of those magnents, alphabet ones and the animal ones, so I need a larger space, almost like a presentation size one. Most of the reasonable priced ones are small, and the huge ones really $$$. That is why I thought maybe I could make one.
The magnet paint, does it hold these heavier magnets?

The one I got at Target was less than $20 and it's about 2' x 3'. If you want to make your own, you'd probably do the best by calling up a sheet metal fabricator to cut sheet metal to size and put it in a large frame. Or you can skip the frame if you have the edges polished and just bolt it flush into a wall. I've only heard lukewarm reviews about the magnetic paint.
what about a staples or office max?

The Target ones are nice. You can get wipe boards that are magnetic, so they can be used elsewhere in the future. Not expensive, as teh PP said.

When we got our stainless steel fridge, we tried the magnetic paint on a portion of the wall in our kitchen. I believe we put six coats on and it still won't hold the heavy magnets. It's great for smaller, lighter magnets though. But, we have some of the leap frog ones and they just slide to the base board.
We followed the application instructions so I'm not sure if it's the brand we bought or if it really was user error!

Our DS uses magnets on our dishwasher, so that may be another option.

Ikea Imperativ:

It comes in a few different sizes too. I'm planning to get one (or two) for the side of my fridge & frame them in wood to match the cabinets so they'll look "built in". The top half will be for messages & the like, the lower for magnetic toys & letters.

The Ikea easel can be used as magnetic board on both sides: http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15567&catalogId=10103&storeId=12&productId=65941&langId=-1&parentCats=15567*16113*16263
Unfortunately it has been out of stock in our local store for months. I've waiting for one for a couple of weeks.
