I am again turning to you for help!

I am looking for a doll for DS because he LOVES the "babies" that his friends have. I am getting him ashopping cart in part because he loves food/kitchens but also so that he can push the baby in the cart.

I have no idea how big a doll to get for his 2nd birthday and I know nothing about what might be less "girlie" dolls. Where shall I look? Our local toy store has a very small selection and our TRUS closed. Dare I try Target? Kohls? Walmart? Where else?

Any thoughts????

Thank you so much,

Stephanie

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but Ann at Tykie Diapers sells anatomically correct soft dolls, both boy dolls and girl dolls. 12 and 1/2 inch dolls for $15. Some mamas also use these for potty training.

www.tykiediapers.com

On the nav menu on the left, select "Pre-order shoes and toys" then scroll past all of the shoes.

Ooooh, those actually look good! I teach in a few minutes but I'll check back later. I don't know how long a special order takes but I'm sure it wouldn't be here by Easter (maybe May birthday?).

Thank you!!

Stephanie

Magic Cabin has some nice dolls for boys. We don't have one yet & it looks like you the previously mentioned one is way cheaper. Just wanted to mention I've seen them at www.magiccabin.com.

I have some links for baby boy dolls, plus photos of all the Baby Bottoms dolls.

I had a similar question about choosing the appropriate doll size for DS not that long ago, and found some info online, which I posted in this thread:

http://www.windsorpeak.com/dc/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=12&topic_id=48343&mode=full

It seems the general consensus for a 2-3 year old child is a 12"-14" doll.

BTW, since posting that thread, I've e-mailed Joy of Joy's Waldorf Dolls for her advice, and she recommended a 13" Little Love doll for my son (2.5 years old). That said, he does love the 10" Fisher Price "Sonya Lee" doll that I recently bought him as an experiment. He didn't have any baby dolls, just stuffed animals, so I wanted to see how he'd respond to one before I splurged on a custom Waldorf doll. (I am keeping my fingers crossed that the Joy's Waldorf Dolls co-op will happen.)

Also, besides the Baby Bottoms dolls, you might want to check out the Furnis boy dolls ($25-$30) mentioned in that thread. I've also heard the Pottery Barn Kids "Christopher" and "Adam" rag dolls recommended (about $40); plus vinyl baby boy dolls by Corolle, Berenguer (e.g., the "Lots to Love" line), Zapf, and Graco. Unfortunately, I'm not sure where you can find the Berenguer and Graco dolls besides TRU.

DS has the Teach Me Toddler Boy which MIL bought him for his 2nd birthday. He does enjoy carrying him around, occassionally trying to "feed" his friend, etc. It's pretty cute, and he can also work on learning to button, lace shoes, etc.

I just ran across these dolls looking for something else. I thought they looked really cute:

I have NO idea about the sizing, it isn't mentioned.

Also, fyi, there is a potential coop with Joy's Waldorf dolls, if you are interested take a look at the Coop board.

There were a few of us that bought American Girl Bitty Twins and split them with some BBB friends before Christmas. Most people only want one or the other (they only come with a boy and a girl). I got my son the blonde boy twin and another BBBer received the girl for her daughter. My son LOVES his baby ... I also got him a Maclaren toy stroller (very boyish ... navy blue with light blue trim). He plays with both very frequently.

Maybe you can find someone here that would be interested in splitting a twin set with you. :)

I found 2 older threads about which dolls to buy for boys.
I made special note of these threads for my son! :)

When I was pregnant with #2, we wanted to get DS a doll so he could learn to be gentle with a baby. I couldn't figure out what to get him but then remembered I still had my old Cabbage Patch Preemie doll (bald with a patch of hair). We cleaned it up, and put one of DS's old preemie outfits on it. He loved it. he still plays with it and pretends to feed it, burp it, etc.
