View Full Version : Which FP Ocean Wonders Aquarium? Old or new model?

I'm thinking about getting one of the FP Aquariums to put in DDs crib. She loves watching the light show on her FP Ocean Wonders swing (which sits next to the crib) while she falls asleep. It looks like both the older and newer model of the aquarium are still available in some places. Does anyone have any comments as to whether one is better than the other?

I haven't actually seen the older model IRL, but DD has the newer model and as soon as she started sitting up, she loved spinning the little clam and starfish at the bottom. It keeps her occupied for a few minutes first thing in the morning so that I can wake up a bit and not stumble as much to the nursery. :) It looks like the older model didn't have that feature, which your DD might enjoy as well.

We have the older model and it's still in DS' crib. It was the first thing he learned how to operate independently. One morning we heard the music playing :) He can even operate the buttons with his feet now.

We have a model even older than the older model you show and DD1 loves it. The pink and green buttons operate the clam and fish inside the aquarium so it is still interactive. I'd say you can't go wrong with either...maybe pick the one that is the best deal!

Thats weird, our doesn't look like either one of those. Were there more than 2 versions? Ours closely resembles the first, but instead of the buttons it has a ball that DD spins to make the clam move and a lever that she pushes on to spin the starfish.
I love that she can operate it herself, she even knows how to turn it off and adjust the volume.
I say get whichever is on sale!

That's the one we have too. It doesn't look like the one posted by the OP (it has the ball and yellow lever). We got it as a shower gift for DS, who adored it, and now DD uses it in her crib. She learned how to turn it on a month or so ago, so she turns it on herself and just watches the fish move.

We have both...the older one for our 3 yr old ds and the new one for our 1 yr ds. The old one we have is like the others have described, not like the first picture. I prefer the older one. It is a little smaller and less bulky. This is a huge hit it our house. We had to be creative and figure out a way to attach it to our 3 yr old's bed rail because he wouldn't go to sleep without it. Great purchase!

We have this one and it's still going strong:

As you can see it has a small ball to spin, a large button in center and a little lever to pull down...each one controls something, either one of the little fish inside or actually turning it on.

My twins loved this then and now. They even learned to control the buttons on top which make it louder, change the music (it has 4 different tunes ) and a button that turns it off.

I've actually seen at least 4 different versions while shopping around for one! Most of them were at least similar in style to the "old" one vs. the way the newer one looks, so I only posted the two images. Wasn't trying to confuse anyone! ;)

We have owned both and I have to say although the new one is really cool in the way it moves I really wish we had our old one back. The new one is HUGE and is a total PITA. It doesn't fit right on the crib. I HATE HATE HATE the way they have the battery compartment set up. For me to change the sheets on DS bed I have to get a screwdriver, unscrew the battery cover, take the batteries out, unscrew the entire battery housing, untie it and unhook it. The design is terrible and I have already had to contact FP twice to get new battery housings because the screws were getting stripped out from too much use. I can't get our mattress out of the crib without removing the aquarium so it is just a hastle. DS loves it but it is not user friendly.
