Love, love, love the Corolle doll I bought for DD a couple of months ago. There are several to choose from - http://www.corolledolls.com/corolle_catalog/product_cat.php/subid=128/index.html

We also love the Corolle dolls. Kidsurplus has a good selection with decent prices. We got a Calin for DD's first birthday, but there is also the Babicorolle Doll.

Okay, you might laugh, but one of Kaya's favorite dolls is a $2.99 (or was it $1.99?) doll I got from our local toystore. It has a cloth body, vinyl legs/feet and arms/hands and head, it has one outfit (there was a girl and boy version and she wanted the boy version who had a hat and purple romper) and it's about 5-6" tall. She loves carrying it around and it's great for travel. We also have the Corelle Tidoo doll and a $3 doll I got from a secondhand place (almost new) and a Baby Bottom Doll, but guess what? She likes the ones with vinyl faces a lot more and that little one still gets as much playing time as the others. Unfortunately, we have lost the hat...

The Calin is the most talked about first baby doll here. There are many threads. ;)

So funny to see this post..we were just looking for a doll for DD's birthday, but decided to wait until Christmas since she isn't really into dolls yet. I think that shipping would have been $5 for us.

Well, I went "all-out" and ordered Carrie a Corolle Tidoo for her first birthday. I think it's a very beautiful baby doll, and DD likes it, but her absolute favorite dolls are the Fisher Price Little Mommy twins I found at K-Mart on sale for $11. That'll teach me!

Also, if I were to do it again and still get a Corolle, I'd probably get one of the Calin dolls. The Tidoo is meant to be a bath doll and it has a lot less stuffing - Carrie gets really frustrated with the fact that the doll won't sit upright. Not that the others really do either, but they at least appear to make the effort. ;)

Good luck!
Sarah :)

Don't know how old the child is, but I just got my Mia ( 8 mo) the Corolle doll called Pink Elf and I am sooooo happy with it. It is a great size for her hands and has a hat, scarf, and flower that she likes to chew on/finger. And she seems to really like her face. And of course the tags...that's the best part of any toy for Mia these days.

HTH,
Gina

ps. Oh and it makes a little jingle and smells like vanilla!
