Anyone have either of these? Any feedback. I'm wanting to get Susanna a tea set for her birthday. Any other fabulous options for a 2 year old?

THANKS!

Do you want her to be able to put liquid in it? If yes, then you need a porceline or plastic set. If no, then we love the M&D one! My sister got it for DD for Christmas when she was 15 mo and she plays with it at least every other day or so. She loves making us tea. :)

I've seen some sites with tin ones that I had considered too but for just playing I like the wood set.

I second the M&D one. DD plays with it at our local consignment store every time we go there (it's not for sale). I'd be afraid she would chip porcelain (she's 2.5).

We have a fisher price set that was a gift and I nearly threw it out because the tea pot "sings" every time you tip it (cute maybe the first 50 times or so), but DH found the battery compartment and now all is well. LOL. DD loves it and it's very durable.

Best,
Mary

If you like fiesta ware, this is another option. It is breakable though, bit I still fantasize about giving it to DD in about two years!

I would recommend getting one that you can put liquid in. And we actually have SEVERAL, so there is likely to be more than one tea set in your future. :)

As usual, y'all are a wealth of help. I'm going with the Kidkraft one. I hadn't even thought of the liquid thing. Since DD likes to put snacks in everything resembling a cup and one of her favorite activities is pouring her drink into anything that looks like it could possibly hold water, having one that is both washable and liquid friendly is important. Thanks!

Kaya has been very good with my neighbor's clay tea pot and sake cups, so I'm about to pull out the Ikea porcelein set for her. She LOVES pouring water, so I think she'll much prefer the porcelein set. I'm not too worried about her breaking it because she'll be playing with it on our porch (which has outdoor carpet), plus I've watched her be very careful with these things. The Ikea set was something like $7.99, although it was plain. But it means I also don't mind if she does accidentally break it.

Your talking about enamal and there are a few really cute sets. But keep in mind that they do chip.

I have seen this enamal set which is very sweet (and I think the one you are talking about) but I'm going to wait until DD is more into tea parties. You can get this set at http://www.atoygarden.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=942

We have this set and DD just loves it. You can find it all over the place but it is a picnic basket and not a real tea set.

I almost bought the Kidkraft tea set for my son, but read some reviews and saw some pictures that indicated it was pretty tiny, since it is a doll's tea set (as opposed to a child's tea set, I guess?). It does seem to be of a smaller scale than some of the other porcelain tea sets I've seen, but not as tiny as the "fairy" or dollhouse tea sets out there. Just something to consider!

Right now, I'm torn between the previously mentioned Schylling Festiveware tea set (which I've seen IRL and found very cute--and gender neutral!--although it lacks utensils), and the PVC-free, dishwasher-safe Spielstabil set.

Oooo...good point. As Beth mentioned, I'm betting we have more than one tea set in our future so I might get this one for now and get a larger version later. She's only going to be 2 so the smaller one will probably be an ok size for now and then she can use it for dolls as she gets older.

Pshew...who knew tea sets could be so taxing!

LOL, I know--and I have a boy! ;) One nice thing about that Kidkraft set is that it's made of poly-porcelain, which is supposedly less prone to breakage.

I don't want to enable a potential tea set habit, LOL, but for future reference, Schylling seems to make a lot of tea sets in porcelain, tin, plastic, and even silverplate. They seem to be widely available, too.

Yikes. Tea set overload. I found this one on a school supply website and am contemplating it. It's plastic but I'm not sure what kind.

I like this one for the gender neutralness of it but it is out of stock and I need it ASAP!

DD has the Fisher Price one, and I would say it's the perfect first set. It's big enough for little hands to hold, can be used with water, no worries about it chipping or breaking. As a PP mentioned the teapot does make a little song when it's tipped, but DD loved that. You can take the batteries out, though!

She's getting old enough for a porceline set now. Personally I would not go with wood for a few reasons.

Have fun looking for your (uh, I mean DD's!) tea set!!

So here's what we did. We went down to Ikea and bought a full set of toddler cutlery and dishes (the stuff meant "for real", not the toy stuff). Then we went through kitchenwares and bought whatever she and I thought was important to round the set out, which turned out to be (from me) a "measuring cup" which is basically a 1-liter pitcher, a tray, and (from her) a brush and some dishwashing gloves. We put it all in a big blue box along with some sliceable velcro fruit and veg, a little ceramic pitcher from Marshall's, and a bright green plastic ice-cream dish I couldn't resist at Joann's. (I hear Target has their summer dishes on sale -- they would be nice for this, too.)

It is so not a tea set. DD is in heaven, and insists on pouring "tea" out of the red pitcher into the cups. This is the best toy we've gotten her in the last year. If I want her out of my hair for a little while, I say "Could you make me some pretend oatmeal?" or "Could I have some pretend tea?"

It might be a nice adjunct to a "proper" tea set. DD loves, loves, loves being able to match the colors and being able to really use her dishes for snacks.

Here is another cute one from Small World toys. I started looking for tea sets so this is a bump in case anyone else is interested too.

I had bought the museum of art porcelin tea seat from Barnes and Noble that was tiny and doll sized. DS managed to break most of the pieces, even on carpet. I recently found a $3.99 set at Tuesday Morning that is plastic and in primary colors, and kid sized (not doll sized). It has 4 of each (cups, saucers, spoons) and one sugar, cream, teapot. It is lightweight and *dishwasher safe*. The pieces are labeled Battat; however the box is labeled Kidpals or something like that. Sure it's not fancy, but I have a son, not a daughter!

Here is one we bought for our one year old. It is painted galvanized metal. She has managed to chip it a bit, but she loves it (no spoons for her yet, they are put away for later). It is really heavy duty and holds liquids. It is pricey, but oh well...
