Do you have a dollhouse? Which one do you have?
Do you like it?

I'm starting my research on Dollhouses! I plan to
get one for Carson for either her birthday (November)
or for Christmas.

Once you buy the house and accessories and people, it
ends up being quite costly so I want to make sure I do
my research and find a great one!!

Thanks for your help!! :)

Corie, what type of dollhouse are you looking for??

I got the Ryan's Room Home Again, Home Again dollhouse for Anna's 3rd birthday in August. We haven't set it up yet or given it to her so I obviously don't know how she likes it yet.

I will tell you that I bought the house, which usually retails for about $130 from Creative Brains during the 50% off sale, and someone also posted a $10 off coupon, so I got it for under $50. I bought all the people and furniture from Kidsurplus - which I found had the best prices. Actually, Creative Brains had the same items listed for the same price, but they were out of stock of everything I wanted.

You are smart to start looking early, hopefully you will catch a good deal!

I have the Battat Treehouse, and everyone, girls and boys alike love it. Heck, most adults do, too.

Thanks!! I have seen it on Target.com, but it says it is not available. The other site is actually selling the Maxim treehouse, which they say is comparable to the Battat treehouse. I know the Maxim treehouse is readily available, so if we do get one that will probably be it.

Corie,

Here is a thread from a while back about the different dollhouse dolls that are available. My personal favorites were the Kathe Kruse dolls, but they are too expensive when I don't even know if Anna will play with it!! I also really liked the *look* of the Plan dolls. We actually ended up buying the RR dolls because I got a good buy. I hope this helps!

I'm sorry, Eileen, I got it at a neighborhood consignment shop NIB (for $50!). That is totally no help to you. I do remember, though, that there used to be a number of them on eBay at Christmas for $75 plus shipping last year, so you may want to keep a watch out for them when it is closer to the holidays. Apparently (I base this on what I have read online, because I don't actually have a membership and have never been there), this was a Sam's Club toy 2 Christmases ago. I don't know if that little tidbit was of any help, but I guess if you live around a Sam's club, it wouldn't hurt to check Craig's List.

WOW! What a score!! I have checked ebay periodically, but nothing. We have a really great childrens' consignment nearby, but I never get to go because I don't want to take my dc. Maybe closer to the holidays I will have luck. It just looks SO cool!

We have this one:

http://www.windsorpeak.com/dc/user_files/34798.jpg

I got it at a resale shop for $80 with everything included. I really like that it has an open design. DS1 had no problem arranging the furniture when we got it at 26 mos. It is not as sturdy as the Ryan's Room ones partly due to the open design, but we have two boys, so I am well aware that it's time is limited. I also have a great dollhouse my grandfather made that they can play with when they are older (not as sturdy). I keep it up on the train table so DS2 doesn't pull up on it.

That is really cute!! Do you know who makes it??

o_mom
07-20-2006, 02:28 PM
It is Battat. In the picture it looks very crowded, but it really isn't - they just moved all the furniture to the front.

This one is almost the same except for no garage and different colors:

Here it is in a story from 2003, so I'm not sure if it is still made:

I'm becoming obsessed (lol) and was wondering if anyone has the KidCraft one?

Or if you have any feedback on KidCraft quality in general?

Best,
Mary

Mary, I have to be honest I have not had much luck with Kidkraft. Last Christmas I bought the Kidkraft train table set from Costco and a doll highchair from Target. By early Christmas morning Kieran had broken several pieces from the train table, and we ultimately had to put the entire set away - so the only thing we use from that purchase is the table. The doll highchair was chipped when I took it out of the box, and chipped more as I put it together. It is definitely useable, but I wasn't impressed.

That being said, I have a friend who also has a Kidkraft train table and nothing has broken. You will also probably read some other positive reviews on here of Kidkraft products. I just wanted to tell you my experience. I definitely won't be buying anymore of their products.

For the poster looking for the Battat treehouse, Target FINALLY seems to have it in stock. I'm looking at it for my son for xmas, but he'll only be 2.5 then, is this going to be too young? It says 3+, but a lot of places list the Maxim treehouse at 4+ or even 7+. I'll put away any accessories that are tiny, but would like him to still be able to play with it.

Lucy, thanks so much for the heads up!! I am in the same boat, except my guy is only 1.5 (will be 2 when I would give it to him)!! I am just so not ready to buy it right now, I wish I could guarantee Target would still have it available in a few months!!

I know, I know!!! I have been drooling over this treehouse forever. If I had the extra cash right now, I would buy it in a heartbeat. That, and I just bought Anna a dollhouse for her birthday (not until the end of August) so I really wanted to discover whether they would actually play with something like it before I bought the treehouse. Oh, I am going to regret this I know it!!

Not to hijack the thread, but I have a few questions about dollhouses. My MIL is planning on buying one for Amelia for her 3rd birthday and was considering a plastic one. Does anyone have any thoughts on that? Are the wood ones suitable for little kids? Some of the ones you guys have posted here look SO cute. I think she will pretty much get whatever I want so I just have to figure out what to get. What would you have her get?

annasmom
07-27-2006, 05:50 PM
Well, I honestly don't know. I bought a wooden dollhouse for Anna's 3rd birthday, but it isn't until August, so I really don't know how she will like it. From what I have gathered, it seems that 3 is a pretty typical age for kids to start getting dollhouses though. I am pretty sure that the dollhouse I bought is for ages 3+.

As for plastic dollhouses, I really don't know if, or what the differences would be. I think there is a FP dollhouse that gets pretty good reviews - the Loving Family dollhouse. Perhaps if you did a search for that dollhouse in particular you could get more information. Good Luck!

We have the FP Loving Family dollhouse and we love it. We've had it for 6+ years and all of our three dd have played with it for hours on end (as have many of their friends). My 9 yo still loves to play with it. We add a few accessories every year and we have a big collection. When we first got it we did it as part of family birthday which helped to furnish it quickly. It is plastic - but it's economical, stores and cleans easily, and has provided endless (and I mean endless) fun.

Good luck!

I just picked up a simple wooden one at Walmart shortly after Christmas, so it was on clearance for $10. It came with furniture. I just had to buy some dolls for it. My daughter was 2.5 at the time. It's still holding up great.

At the time, I just couldn't justify spending a lot of money on a nice doll house when she's still pretty rough on toys. Even at over 3, her toy cars are looking pretty beat up and her Barbies have some wild looking hair. When she is older, I have my old doll house that I put together that she can have.

I just got this dollhouse with all the furniture on ebay for $158 including shipping. Not as good a deal as the pp, but pretty good. It came with a bunch of extra rooms, etc, including farm animals and a ton more. We opened it today, at my 27 mo DD played with it for almost 2 hours! A real record! Anyway, we love love love it! It is huge, though. Beware--we are putting thegarage and car in the attic for now.

I just got this Battat dollhouse set, too, from Craigslist for $60 from a grandmother who kept it for her visiting granddaughter. I like that it is big, three stories, and that it is fairly open but was disappointed that the wood was rough, so much so that when I tried to dust it with a papertowel bits of paper got caught on the wood, both on the house and furniture.

I also have a Plan Traditional dollhouse I got from Tuesday Morning (for $19) that is similar in size and have to say that the Plan dollhouse is much much much better quality. The wood is ultra smooth, the house is very sturdy, and the quality of the wood is beautiful, like a dense hard wood vs. the Battat one that is more like a lighter pine. I'm going to try to sand the Battat dollhouse and see if that helps. I'm sure either will have similar play value but just wanted to give my IRL comparisons.

I, too, have become obsessed and am so tickled to find this post! Has anyone out there ever BUILT one? We were @ PBK the other day and DD played w/ the doll house w/o even a second glance to see if I was still there! After 30 minutes we had to go, and she was distraught to leave. PBK is charging $200, doesn't include any furniture or people. Total ripoff. So now I'm thinking about asking my husband to make one, I'll paint it. Anyone have any home made ones they'd be willing to post pix of? TIA!
