The Groovy Girls makes a cute doll but it is tiny. We have that one and a Cabbage Patch Kid. DS doesn't like either. :( FWIW, my nephew has the Little Mommy doll and he LOVES it.

How old is he? We gave this one to our DD for her second birthday and she's adorable. She also comes in a boy version, and in blond (boy and girl) as well.

I bought it from Playstoretoys.com and had a great experience with them.

Hi Corie --

Did you check out the www.oompa.com site? They have some cute boy dolls, but I have not seen them in RL

for example:

Have you seen the Furnis dolls?? Here is a link:

http://www.oompa.com/cgi-bin/category/401

I bought a girl version for Anna for Christmas last year. Unfortunately, Anna is just not very interested in dolls yet. It is a really cute doll and very well made. It is NOT cuddly however, it is kind of skinny, iykwim?

ETA: Here is a link to the boy version of the doll Mary posted:

http://www.atoygarden.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=730

I think it is a Kathe Kruse doll (Mary, is that right?)

Also, I have always loved the look of the Magic Cabin dolls:

http://www.magiccabin.com/magiccabin/product.do?section_id=0&bc=1004&pgc=43

They used to have a link to an actual photograph of the dolls -- they are SO adorable.

I actually just bought dolls for both Anna & Kieran through the Joy's Waldorf co-op. I plan to give them the dolls as a gift from the new baby. They came out beautifully. Here is a link to Joy's:

Moolka has some nice long legged dolls (French, not sure of the brand). We haven't bought one but they're super cute (not as cuddly as the rag doll you wanted though)

Eileen, good call! Yes, she is a Kathe Kruse, and Magic Cabin sells almost the same one (called the "toddler doll") in slightly different clothing. I got ours from Playstore because they have a completely adorable doll bed that flips over to be a cradle that we *had* to have (lol) so I just got the doll there too.

I tried to make a doll from the last Joy's group buy (from a kit) but I just can't get her head to stay on straight. Wish I had just bought the doll, because as she is I can't give her to DD and honestly, I emailed Joy a few times and she was pretty unhelpful. Just my $.02, unless you're a pretty good seamstress already I'd get a doll, not a kit, from Joy.

Best,
Mary

Hey Eileen!

I really like Pablo (from Furnis). I wish he was more cuddly
though! My son likes to hug on dolls and stuffed animals.
I do like that he is anatomically correct! I think he is
my top contender so far! :)

An affordable (at $40) alternative to a Waldorf doll is a Peppa "Billy" doll, which is manufactured in Fair Trade and made of natural materials. Nova Natural sells the doll, but calls it "Little Friend":

About Peppa dolls: http://www.babylonia.be/html/eng_03poppen.html

There's also the Zonnekind "Small Gangly" doll, but the company is in the Netherlands and the doll is about USD$94.

(That said, my DS does love his "Little Love" boy from the last Joy's co-op. He's always hugging and carrying him around--I think it's because of the heft and heat-retaining properties of the wool stuffing!)

I found many boy corolle dolls. I got DS an adorable boy doll that he loves and goes to sleep with every night.

Check out the other ages and stages by clicking on the collections link. I bought one that I don't see on this site. (You can find them once in a while for better prices on Ebay.)

It doesn't hurt that it has a DELICIOUS vanilla scent that ds loves.

My son has this one:

My MIL bought it for him last Christmas after the baby doll (just a regular baby doll dressed in blue) didn't go over very well with DH. I thought I'd be able to get rid of the baby doll, but DS still loves to carry both dolls around!

Just wondering which doll you chose for your son? I'd love to get one for Evan and the Haba Lukas one does look really cute :)

I'm still thinking!! His birthday isn't until October
so I've got some time. I always start my research early
for the kids' birthdays. :)

So far, I like the Haba-Lukas doll and the Furnis-Pablo doll.

Supposedly, the Haba-Lukas doll isn't available yet in
the States. That is what customer service at oompa.com
told me.

My only concern with the Haba doll is that it looks really
stiff to me. It doesn't look very cuddly and my son loves
to hug and squeeze. I'm wondering about the doll's huggability.
Plus, maybe it's just me, but the Haba dolls look very, very
white. Like they have no skin color. It looks a little
weird to me.

I really like the look of the Furnis-Pablo doll. I just
wish he had a little more meat on his bones!! He looks
a rather scrawny. Again, I'm questioning his huggability!

Why am I putting so much thought into a doll for my son
who really could care less??? :)

Looks like Oompa gave me some wrong information!!

I just found the Haba-Lukas doll on the kidsurplus
website.

And, here is the Furnis-Pablo doll.

Those dolls are cute. I'm looking for a doll for my DS as well. I wish I can find boyish ones in B&M stores. Whatever happened to that "My Buddy" doll from the 80s? My cousin had one that he took everywhere.

Corie & Caroline,
Have you looked at The American Girl Company? They have a toddler/baby boy doll with (brown or blonde) hair. He's part of a twin set but you can get him separately on Ebay and get a good deal there. I'm suggesting this doll because I went up to their LA store and my nephew (2yrs) *LOVED* it! His Mom had no idea he was even interested in dolls yet. He walked right up to it and said "Baby-Sam, Baby-Sam!" and before we knew it he took off with his new "buddy" in the stroller! It was so cute to watch him interact with this doll. He instinctively bent down and "kissed" his Baby-Sam on the forehead and stroked his hair. He'd pick him up and carry him around and was heart broken when he had to wave Good Bye. I think he especially liked it because it looked like him. KWIM? It wasn't just some stuffed animal toy sitting there. I think it really helped spark his interest in this sort of role play. If my SIL doesn't get it for him I'm going to. I think this doll is great and highly recommend it as the perfect "companion" for any child. If you want to know about quality just take a look at my Samantha doll I got when I was 8yrs old! She's still alive and I was really tuff on toys lol!

Oh, and I have to mention all the cute clothes available for this little boy doll. Those stripes and sneakers are too cute!

HTH!

OH my G-d. I love these and I live near the store. I love that they have a blond blue eyed (like DS #1) and a brown hair brown eyes (like DS #2). My DH would kill me if I spent the $89 right now, but you gave me a great idea for their holiday wish list.

Rebekah,

Thank you for posting about the Bitty Baby twins!

My 4.5 years old daughter has a Bitty Baby and she loves her!
She pushes her around in the baby stroller and holds her.

But my son has no interest in this doll. He would rather hold
a stuffed animal and snuggle with it.

I'm thinking it's because the Bitty Baby has a really hard
head, arms, and legs. Only the body part is soft.

I think my son would prefer a cuddly and huggable type
doll as opposed to my daughter who wants a more realistic
baby to feed, diaper, and clothe. I'm sure this has to
do with their ages as well.

Maybe he would be ready for a Bitty Baby twin when he gets
a little older!

Thanks Rebekah!

I actually ended up purchasing this doll at Lakeshore Learning today on a whim.

http://tinyurl.com/kbwbp

DS couldn't wait for me to open the package, but then he got jealous when I was holding the doll while he was nursing. He popped off, grabbed the doll, threw it on the ground and resumed nursing once he was satisfied I wasn't going to pick it up. I guess he thought the doll was invading his personal space. I can't imagine how he would react when a sibling comes along. :)

I'll give him a few days with the doll. Lakeshore said they'll take it back if he doesn't like it, and it's still in resellable condition.
