I bought 7 laundry baskets (now on sale for $1.99 if you pick a color other than white at Target) and organized our toy collections though the house, and have a few spares. After spending 3 years looking for the perfect toy box, this is what I have and I love it! Perfect size so things are not lost, but they can get to everything and even if it is dumped (laundry baskets are a fav toy) you can clean up again quickly. They can be hidden in closets, or in the corner easily. I can rotate baskets between floors and the basement.

I feel like a new woman with the toys organized right now.

There's nothing like a cheap and effective system :) Congratulations on finding a great solution!! :) You must be so happy!!

In case anyone else is interested, I got this idea on organizedhome.com a long time ago and it has been really helpful. We use dishpans in closets, in our office, etc. to sort and organize things (hold paper to be shredded, magazines to recycle, I put my folded sweaters in them on the shelf in my closet so the whole pile doesn't tumble over, etc. They organize effectively like baskets for a fraction of the price (usually $1-3 each). Thought I'd mention it since it is a similar idea.

Oh, and we haven't done this yet, but you can also hang J-channel molding on the bottom of a shelf and then the dishpan "lip" at the top can sit on the molding, making a drawer of sorts. I'm going to try this with some of my lighter weight craft supplies (we're re organizing and switching the room we use for our office).

I dont use laundry baskets but I do have tons and tons of baskets all through out the house. LOVE it. It looks so pretty and like you said it's so easy to clean up. I'll do anything to make my life easier. :)

Beth, do you know of a photo on the internet somewhere that illustrates this? It sounds intriguing, but I am not seeing it in my head. TIA!
