Who makes a good play kitchen? Would a kitchen set make a good gift for our 2 year old's birthday? I love the PBK ones but just can't justify spending that kind of money on a toy I am afraid won't get tons of use. Thanks for any advice.

Hi, take a look at this thread, among others.

WOW That is a super helpful thread! Thank you so so much for forwarding it on to me. I can't believe the prices on some of them. My husband thinks we don't have "room" for one but I am sure I can persuade him otherwise! Does anyone know anything about the Target one?

I have the Play Wonder kitchen (by Battat--not to be confused with the older Battat Island Kitchen) that's currently being sold at Target stores and on their website.

(Edited to fix link to my "review"!)

I just bought the Target one as well for my son's 2nd bday. We managed to find a Target that had one set up for display, and he *loved* it (he actually begs to go to target now....) I think for the price, it looks great - esp for a boy, the store display model was in terrific shape after what i'm sure is a lot of abuse. Note that I was not in the market for a family heirloom, we don't have a lot of space so needed a compact unit, and honestly since its for a boy we weren't sure how many years he'd really use it for. We just couldn't swallow spending hundreds of dollars on a toy like this. Also, one of his playmates has the kidkraft kitchen island and during one playgroup the kids managed to break both the phone and faucet. So for us it looks like a great deal, I'll post again once I assemble it. I also picked up an extra pot and the little microwave to go with it.

i was going to suggest this also. my mom just bought this for ds's for xmas...our targets sell out of them EVERYTIME i look so we found it in-stock a few weeks ago and she went ahead and bought it. the display looked good, so i'm assuming it'll hold up for a little bit with my two boys!

The Kidkraft ones are nice and VERY complete for the price. I have the Pastel one for DD, but there are some primary color ones available too - I know there is a primary color island kitchen and a full sized one too. DD is 18 mos. and LOVES her kitchen. She is constantly playing with it and it's a toy that will last for years. Hers ended up costing less than the plastic ones (most of them) at Toys R Us and thankfully is not an eyesore. The pastel is light yellow, light blue and light pink. The colors are milder in real life, compared to the internet pictures. It looks very cute in her room.

I just bought this one, for the price it looks great. I just hope it holds up. It got some bad reviews for durability but I like it better than the plastic ones. It even comes with some pots and pans. Now to find good "fake" foods!
