DS is trying to pull himself up. He crawls around really well, so I knew this was coming, but hate that he's so mobile.

Anyway, I currently lie on the floor with him and let him crawl/pull up on me, put toys on the couch and hold him while he plays/tries to stand alone, hold his hands while he stands up (from sitting or lying), and I let him walk while holding his hands etc.

Any other suggestions to encourage/help him. Standing is his new trick, so he wants to stand 90% of the time. I want to encourage while not doing it for him, but I swear it's as bad as learning to roll over. He gets so frutrated because he wants to do it alone.

TIA

You could buy him one of those toys that he can stand up and walk behind. My son has this one and loves it.

You could also get him an activity table that he could stand at and play. Something like this:

I swear there are toys and products for every moment of their little lives, aren't there?

Oh, I'm So in the same boat with my dd (she's 7 months next week). Nope, nothing special to do, just do what feels natural for both of you.. sometimes I help her out, sometimes I let her struggle a little... It won't be but a few days or weeks before he's off and cruising on his own and won't need you much at all, so just enjoy lying on the floor with him now, because soon it'll be you just chasing him (for the next couple years! lol)

Sounds like you're already doing a great job. We have a futon in E's room, and we would put interesting toys and books along it so he could practice cruising. And we also let him crawl/climb on us, kind of like a human jungle gym.

For stuff, we did buy him 2 things that encouraged him to stand and cruise more. One is the Learn-Around Playground from LeapFrog (which we got around 6mo), the other is the Radio Flyer Classic Walker Wagon. He loves the LeapFrog toy, and stood at it for as long as possible early on.

You don't need to do anything special...he'll figure it out just fine on his own.

If you are interested in doing *something*, one thing I often suggested w/ kids this age when I was working (I was a pediatric physical therapist before DS was born) is removing the couch cushions on your couch and allowing your child to pull to stand there. It makes it easier to grab with less bulk, and depending on the couch, the height may be better. Disclaimer is that you should obviously supervise to prevent injury ;)

I usually let him roam all over the floor and we don't have much furniture in the basement so he can feel free to go all over. Ugh why do they have to get mobile.
