Ok gals, I'm out to find good toys that can occupy a nearly one year old. I don't have enough toys and I'm going on a shopping spree!! So why don't you post the sites you like to purchase from??

Oh, and discounts and specials don't hurt, do they???

Our son LOVES his Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Playhouse. It's really the only toy he's played with consistently from the day we got until now.

I totally agree. My daughter has played with her Fisher Price laugh and learn home everyday for the last 3 months.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am looking for specific toys as well, not only sites if possible. Being that my son is my first, I am not really that familiar what's appropriate for his age. I'm checking out all the links and suggestions, but would love more.

Thanks

ETA: www.moolka.com
www.maplelandmark.com (they have bigger-sized trains than typical Thomas/Brio, including track. MIL bought one of these for my DS when he was pretty young and he had fun w/ it, and didn't need track at all). Their blocks have gotten good reviews from a handful of people here. Cool wooden vehicles, etc. too.

www.barclayblocks.com for wooden unit building blocks. Definitely something w/ lasting play value. A less expensive alternative is sosmething like the set from Melissa and Doug. That set gets mixed reviews here, but we've been very very happy with ours.

Table and chairs set
Play kitchen (18 months or so is probably a good age. DS started enjoying his at 15 months, mostly turning knobs, opening/closing cabinets, etc.)
Stacking and nesting toys (www.kidsurplus.com has some interesting ones. We have 2-3 different wooden ones)
A basic shape sorter. You can buy a Fisher Price one that has only 3-4 shapes, which is something they can handle sooner than a more complex one.
Big knobbed puzzles like those from Melissa and Doug, with just 3 shapes or pictures to start. www.creativebrains.com has a lot of M&D stuff as well as lots of other cool things.

Play tunnel and or/tent (again, lasting play value)

Wagon

Sandbox or sand/water table (I like our Naturally Playful sandbox)

Toddler bucket style swing

wagon

Lawnmower toy or shopping cart

Learning Tower by Guidecraft (we LOVE ours)

Tricycle w/ pushbar, although most kids don't pedal on their own until 2.5 or 3ish. Some people buy them for one year olds and use it more as a stroller initially. Kettlers have autofreewheel, etc. which makes it easier to use w/ a 1 year old.

Musical instruments (lasting play value for sure, may need supervision obviously depending on the instruments)

We also love our bumbershootbaby playsilks around here as the PP mentioned :)

cool Waldorf-y toys from:
http://www.threesisterstoys.com/
www.hearthsong.com
http://www.atoygarden.com/
http://www.willowtreetoys.com/
www.magiccabin.com

From 9-15 months or so, I think DS mostly enjoyed just playing w/ household items more than anything else :) Cups, bowls, spoons, etc.

My daughter adored that toy and played with it every single day from age 1 to age 2. When she turned two we got her a kitchen and no longer had room for the house.

She also got the Fisher Price LIttle People House and Barn for her first birthday/holiday season and she still plays with them - the Little People may be her favorite toys, period.

Have fun shopping!

Best,
Mary

Yes! I just got my DD the Little People Farm and she likes it. She loves to open and close all the doors and push the buttons to make the animal noises. She also likes to carry the little animals around and put them on top of things.

I'm thinking about getting her the house also.
