DD is 13 months old and lately she has been very interested in pointing at objects in her board books and making me name them. Up till this point I have only been naming actual objects as we see them every day. I've been looking at board books that have photos of objects (as oppose to drawings like in the board books we have) such as the My First Words series. She is not that interested in them though, presumably because there are too many objects on the same page which makes it too overwelming. I'm not trying to make her into a super baby or anything, I just thought it would be nice to have a set of durable, simple flashcards with photos of actual objects, animals, shapes, etc., plus she really just likes cards in general so that would make it more fun for her. Do any of you have a set/sets that your DC really liked? TIA.

My DS has really enjoyed playing with (and has learned from) the Baby Einstein cards. There are several sets to choose from (ie. animals, nature, etc.) I'm guessing that they are sold at Walmart, Target, etc. I bought mine at TJ Maxx, but that was a while ago and I'm not sure that they still carry it.

Ditto again -- we bought a set of the baby Einstein ones for DS and he loved them, now his little sis drags them around. They are dog-eared and all over the house but they have fun with them.

We have 3 or 4 sets of Baby Einstein cards and my DD STILL loves them. We originally bought them to augment her speech therapy, but she still likes looking at them, organizing them, and she makes up matching games with them. We are also doing some pre-reading activities with them now, since the name of the object is printed on the front of the card. We match letters, work on beginnning sounds of words, etc. And the photos on them are really lovely.

Agree with the BE cards. It's been a while (like 3 years!) but we had a set that came were great for while out and about. It was a flippable set that could attach to those links, and they were a good thickness (a few even got sucked on and survived!). Great simple pictures too. Emma is almost 4 and we were looking through them the other day - they've really held up!

I bought the numbers, animals, and colors flash cards by Brainy Baby at a Marshalls for around $5 each. I haven't compared them to anything else, but I think they are pretty nice and would fit your needs. They are made of cardboard (not as thick as a board book) and have pictures of actual objects. Here is their website http://www.brainybaby.com.

We have Baby Einstein & they're definitely durable. If you're looking for a cheaper alternative, there are some at Michael's (I've seen them other places too) & they're only about $1.
