I'm starting DD's Christmas and Birthday lists and want to narrow down the books so I can be specific with family. I have looked at most of the Boynton books and there are several that *I* really like, but had a hard time picking just a few (and trying to guess which DD might like best). Which of the Boynton books are your DC's favorites?

TIA,

Our son can recite the Going to Bed Book.

There are two "Greatest Hits" type of collections of four books each. I'd get them both!

My 8 yo loved Blue Hat Green Hat when he was a toddler. My 3 yo now likes the Pajama Time, but I think mainly because of the song.

Agree with one PP that I would get the 2 sets of 4 books each.

TJMaxx and Marshalls often have her books in new condition too.

I would say though that our family's favorite is her CD with books. Philadelphia Chickens.

(I have a crush on Kevin Bacon, who sings the title song on the CD, so I am biased...)

Wowie - that's a hard one! We decorated DS's nursery with the Bardyard theme (totally based on the book) and it was so adorable! We also used Birthday Monsters as the theme for his first birthday complete with a Bday Monster cake (it was pretty darn cute, if I say so myself). Needless to say, we are huge Boynton fans and I "think" there are only about four of the books that we don't have. So in addition to Barnyard Dance and Birthday Monsters, I would add:

But Not the Hippopotamous
Hippos Go Berserk
Snoozers (something like eight short stories)
The Going to Bed book (I LOVE the ending)

Also, now at 2 1/2, DS thinks "Blue Hat, Green Hat" is hysterical (the "Oops" parts make him crack up!)

We LOVE Pajama Time! We also like Hey,Wake Up!, But Not the Hippopotomus, Oh My Oh My Oh Dinosaurs, and Barnyard Dance. I'll have to get the others the PPS have metioned too. T.J.Maxx does always seem to have them though your selection may vary. I'd get them all! :)

As an infant her favorite was barnyard dance.

She LOVES the Going to Bed Book sung to the tune of Rock-a-bye Baby (she calls it the rock-a-bye baby book).

But not the Hippopotamus and Hippos go Berserk are two fun ones.

Snuggle Puppy also needs to be sung. :)

And she loves the Philadelphia Chickens CD (I think it's fun too).

*I* love Barnyard Dance - it's so fun to read! "With a nay and a moo and a cock-a-doodle-doo, now we all promenade two by two" Okay, must get a hobby ;)

Thanks everyone! Most of those were the books I liked. I'll have to check out Philadelphia Chickens. I'll try TJMaxx and get whatever they have, then ask for the others for gifts!

Thanks again,

We got a book from the library which we loved but then I forgot about it.
It had different dinosaurs. And there was a little poem about each dinosaur. You could read the whole book or one dinosaur at a time. This was a great one too.
We love Moo Baa - one of DD's first words was La la from the book. In fact for a long time she called all books La la.

Olivia loves:

But Not the Hippopotamus
Snuggle Puppy
Oh My Oh My Oh Dinasours
Moo Baa Lalala

and more recently: The Belly Button Book.

I really like Barnyard Dance - I seem to like it more than Olivia does, though ;)

I third or fourth the recommendations for the Volume 1 and Volume 2 four book collections, especially if you're starting a Boynton library. But not the Hippo, Going to Bed, Red Hat Green Hat, Opposites are all some of my son's favorites.

One book that no one's mentioned is Doggies. We ended up with two copies of this one (it comes in one of the collections discussed above). If you have Dogs, especially if they bark, it may be a fun one to have. Our greyhounds don't bark, so my son didn't really get what it was all about until he finally saw dogs that do bark. After that he was much more amused by the book and enjoys doing some of the different dog barks. (personaly it drives me nuts.)

I looked at Doggies and didn't really like it. We do have a dog and he barks a little, but DD already says "woof woof" every time she sees anything that is furry and has 4 legs - a goat, sheep, lion, etc. - doesn't matter, they all woof (although she is getting that cats meow). I think we'll skip that one!

Thanks for the other recommendations,
