Snoedel? Is it safe?

I was wondering if anyone had any information on the safety of the Snoedel. I know you aren't suppossed to put anything soft in a crib, because of sids dangers. I was reading a sleep training book and they specifically recommended this one as a soother/lovey. You are suppossed to sleep with it, so it picks up your scent. Then you put it in with the baby and it comforts them. They can also use it to teeth on. My baby is 5 months old and is having seperation anxiety, sleep issues and is teething. He sleeps, but only when swaddled and put down asleep. I'd love for him to learn to put himself back to sleep.

Has anyone had any experience with this?
