We are currently using our Superyard XT (with extension) with our DD, who can pull to standing but is afraid to "cruise" and is not walking yet. She doesn't realized she's penned in yet!! She'll spend a good amount of time amusing herself in there.

My parents want to buy one for their house, but I am afraid once she starts walking it won't be that effective.

Any BTDT advice?

Thanks!!

Actually, we used ours (closed) with Kaya until she started walking (14.5 months), and even after that, for a while, when we wanted to keep her contained. Then when we were feeling more confident about her roaming the house, we created an "open gate" where it formed a rectangle, but one of the gates was set "ajar". We created a comfy area inside with books and pillows and a stuffed bear. I think this was around 18 months. When she got upset, we would put her in there (initially I would go in there with her) and let her calm down. I guess you could call it a time out area or comfy corner or whatever you want, but it was a place she could hang out. After awhile, she just used it as a play area, so something a bit more contained. These days her decompression area is her bed, so we just put away the gate. So I guess we used the supergate with her for 2+ years? We'll take it back out for the next one, I imagine....

FWIW, our friends have twins that are only 2 months younger than Kaya nad they got a large number to encircle an entire room with some furniture inside and things they want to keep away from the kids on the outside (like the TV). They still use it for their kids, although I'm thinking it won't be long before their kids figure out how to climb the darn thing. But it does seem to work pretty well and now they have 2 more kids about 3 months old who will probably end up using it.

My son took his first steps fairly early at 8 months and we were able to use the superyard until he was about 14 months old without any problems. He was able to walk really well and was willing to stay in and play. Now that he is 17 months old, he wants nothing to do with it and my husband just informed me that he took it down today.

Thank for posting! It's encouraging that you were able to use it past the walking stage. That makes me feel better about my parents spending the $$ on one for their house.
