I'd like to make something Ishy can carry his art supplies around in, but as I try to run Google searches for ideas, I can't think up search terms that are specific enough to give me anything but endless web pages selling art supplies for kids.

Does anyone have a craft/art supplies tote that they like? Either instructions for one to make, or just one you have seen and like (even if it's a commercial one — as I said, I'm looking for ideas, here) would be appreciated. TIA. :)

I use a pencil box to hold some basic supplies (small pack of crayons, markers, pencils, sharpener) and then I put it in a tote bag or small backpack with other supplies (drawing pad, coloring book, a ziplock baggie with stickers). Thats worked pretty well for us.

You could check the craft/scrapbooking stores. I have a few different organizers for myself that hold markers, paper, etc. There are all different configurations, etc.

Michaels had cute craft totes on sale the other week as well.

I have most of DS's stuff in a little handled plastic tote box and it works okay. We're outgrowing it though ;) It is kind of like this but not divided, and ours is plastic. For now I just have a cup in there holdin paintbrushes, the crayons are rubber banded together, etc.

I saw this on Target's site:

Do you want something he can use to carry supplies around in the house, or to take them out of the house with?

You could try googling "art caddy" or something along those lines.

Something to take them out of the house with. Possibly something he could easily get out by himself in the house (currently I have to guess whether he'll feel like drawing at any given time and get the supplies out for him), but the main point is to be able to easily carry a few supplies out of the house and not have them smush into each other.

Thanks! I think caddy is the word I was trying to think of but couldn't call to mind.

I've been looking for a similar sort of thing for my DD who is 3. Her crayons, glue, scissors are always all over the house and then my 1 year old gets to it.

I was thinking of getting some sort of portable carry case/tote with a closure so we can keep all her stuff together and my 1 year old can't get in.

The closest I've found to what I am looking for is this from container store:

Hope that helps.

We do sliding ziplocks for taking a few crayons and tuck that and a scribble pad into a larger sliding ziplock. Cheap and decent motor exercise for her to open/shut them herself.

At home we have some small cheap IKEA boxes that hold a lot of crayons/markers, and I attached a plastic drinking cup to her easel to hold a few crayons and chalk.

Just a few thoughts on cheap, low tech ways. I'm sure there are some beautiful solutions out there, though! ;)
