Does anyone have any recommendations?? I have found a few that are quite expensive and I really don't want to spend a ton of money on this item. Thanks!!

Do you want play tools or functional tools? DS has a set of wooden tools (maybe by Schylling? I think Melissa and Doug make some, as well as a few other companies) and he still enjoys it at 2.5. He likes playing w/ DH's real tools too though.

www.forsmallhands.com has real functioning tools. I think I also saw some in the constructive playthings catalog recently (along w/ a workbench type of thing, but they were sold separately)

(on the page before that one they have some other tools...plastic work bench, etc. so that is a less expensive option)

I have seen "real" or at least realistic looking tools at TRU but not sure of the quality. THey have a Home Depot series of tools and kits but I only glanced at them. Not sure how well they'd work for a little one.

Pottery Barn Kids has a toolbench out now but of course it is very pricey.

Have you been to Tuesday Morning? They have the Brand Heros there, a nice German wood company. We got a drum full of tools, nuts and bolts (for cheap) and one of the benches online for Christmas last year.

If you'd like some durable real working tools and don't mind plastic, try Lake Shore Learning and Learning Resources.

Have you seen this work bench by Vilac? Looks pretty cool.
No idea on cost though.
