Dolls for a 1 year old

I was talking to my mom on the phone today and she wants some ideas on what to get DD for Christmas. I was thinking a doll might be nice to give her.

What would be a good first doll for a baby who will be 15 months old at Christmas?

The Zapf Baby ChouChou dolls are wonderful. My granddaughter's favorite at that age was about 12 inches and had a little teddy bear attached to the wrist.
