We don't have many electronic toys, but my 2.5 yo DS is so interested in my laptop computer. Does anyone have a toddler laptop? I've seen several versions that do phonics, etc., but was just hoping for a positive recommendation on one.

Thanks!

OK, anyone that has read many of my posts knows that I hate these types of toys with a passion. That said, we have VTech's Tote-n-Go Laptop Plus and well, I have to admit that it has been great. They have a few activities that are geared more for younger children such as just finding the letter or number on the keyboard and activities that are geared for older kids. Oh and there are activities that do not require knowing the alphabet or numbers such as playing music and phonics. It is about $20 and I've seen it at Target.

My 3 yr old just got the Fisher Price Laugh N Learn laughtop(Laptop) toy for his birthday, and its been GREAT. Not expensive, does letters, a mouse game, phonics and music, and is easy for him to use - he turns it on, of, switches games, and can carry it around easily. I would post a pic, but I don't know how LOL.

We have this as well, DD loves it. Calls it her K-puter and plays with it almost exclusively in the car. It is in the house at the moment, DS loves banging on it too. :)

We were at Target today, and I decided to check out the toddler laptops. Like several PP, I usually don't go for electronic toys, but this thread piqued my curiosity, since DS is always trying to climb onto my lap when I'm using the computer. I was almost tempted to get DS the Fisher Price "Laughtop" mentioned by the PP below, since it was on sale, but then I spied the Thomas version of the VTech laptop and couldn't resist it.

The "Learn & Explore Laptop" was $24.99 (five dollars more than the Tote-n-Go Laptop Plus), and in the same aisle as the Take Along Thomas toys. Besides the character tie-ins for the laptop's appearance and the activities, the main differences seem to be: (1) a built-in mouse and mousepad (cannot be moved to accommodate lefties) ; (2) no numbered list of the games around the screen (but there's a PDF version of the manual online, so you can print an extra list); and (3) it's only available at Target.

It's not on the Target website, but it is on the VTech site:

DS only played with it for a little while after dinner (the "find the letter" game Veronica mentioned), so I can't really review it just yet, but he already seems to love it. :)

ETA: One nice thing about the FP Laughtop is that it has a backlight, which the VTech doesn't.

Another vote for the Thomas computer. DS received it as a gift and absolutely loves it. Like the PP, I wish it listed the games available on it (as I think I have already lost the instructions). I know that it has 30 games with everything from capital and lowercase letters to numbers to greater than/less than, and music. DS doesn't seem bothered by the absence of a backlight and I don't think it is too bad (I have seen much darker screens). For $25, we think it is really good.
