I am trying to decide between the small world living sink and stove or the Plan sink and stove? I bet everyone is sick of "kitchen" talk, but what about overall quality of these two companies? I don't have anything from either so I am at a loss. TIA! (I added links if you want to see).

I haven't seen either of the pieces you are looking at but can offer some insight into PlanToys. They are a division of BRIO, if that helps you. All of their wood pieces are made from rubberwood.

We don't have the kitchen items you are specifically talking about, but we do own a number of other toys from both companies. I find the quality to be about the same. They're much better than the Melissa and Doug stuff but not as nice as Haba. We have not had any chipping problems with the stuff from either companies, which is a huge problem with the M & D stuff.

We have the Small World Living kitchen (sink/stove combo) and I really like it. It's very sturdy and well-made. We've had it for almost a year and both kids have played with it off and on (but not necessarily every day) and it's held up well. I have a few Plan Toys pieces, albeit not kitchen pieces. One piece, a pick-up truck, lost it's back after a couple of months' use.

We have the same Small World Living set that Caroline does and we love it. It's very sturdy - it's been moved around within our our and through our move and it's good as new.
